jaytmuk (DayZ) 621 Posted August 25, 2013 Playing Dayz today and some guy talking in chat saying he looking for hes body to get his gear back, and that got me thinking that maybe in the standalone your body should rot (maybe with an animation) and despawn within a minute, This would stop players re-gearing from their dead body and 1 minute would probably give the killer enough time to loot it before it rots. It would also help with any potential lag from many dead bodies on the server. Just an idea i think would benefit the game in standalone and even the mod. joe_mcentire 2074 Posted August 25, 2013 and destroy a vital part of dayz: scavenging this is a problem for sure but i don't think this is the best solution to it
applejaxc 2500 Posted August 25, 2013 Just disable someone's ability to loot their own body. (the only way around it would be if you know you're going to die, dropping all of your stuff as quickly as possible. But that just makes a huge, inconvenient mess for the killer and probably won't leave a lot of stuff behind for you anyway)
Statik (DayZ) 2695 Posted August 25, 2013 DayZ is never going to be 100% realistic, and I don't really see a reasonable fix for players looting their own corpse. Bodies "rotting" and despawning within a minute is just unrealistic, and would ruin the game in so many aspects (i.e. no more stumbling across bodies, and very few people can loot someones body within a minute after killing them)
harley001 315 Posted August 25, 2013 Just get rid of the ability to loot your own body? Some of my best loot finds are from random body's I find.
Gdaddy22 299 Posted August 25, 2013 No, the system of corpses allows snipers to shoot people all day long, and then at the end of the day come down from the hill or other spot and take all the loot, at least that's what I do when I play sniper
fluxley 2228 Posted August 25, 2013 (edited) The best idea i've seen so far is to have zombies attracted to bodies, and the longer they are there ripping it apart the more the gear gets damaged, Not only would this make running back to your body a waste of time but it would encourage more up close and personal player killing as shooting someone from a distance would mean theres a good chance that by the time the killer gets to the loot some of it would be destroyed. Lady Kyrah 1110 Posted August 25, 2013 How about making you respawn as far as possible from your gear?
fluxley 2228 Posted August 25, 2013 How about making you respawn as far as possible from your gear? That pretty much happens anyway every time someone dies at the NWAF, doesn't stop them just running straight back there in the hope of getting their gear back. mr_chabowski@live.co.uk 2416 Posted August 25, 2013 I usually have no problem with folks looting themselves. IMO skipping the first while after spawn is their loss. That said, I think a mixture of some ideas here could provide a nice little solution without too much gameyness. Instead of bodies insta-rotting, which takes random "stumble-upons" out of the picture, or disallowing access to your own corspe, which you could easily bypass with a buddy to hand you stuff, your body should stay in the server for a pre-set time, but force-rot when you come within ~500 metres of it. If a partner was with you when you died and wants to take all he can carry, that's fine. Anyone else would do the same upon finding a random corpse, so it's no big deal. It's very unlikely they'd get everything. And if you go back, the body will be gone. Zeds attracted to bodies would be cool, but again, it reduces the chances of lucky "stumble-upons" after the fact. It's better for scavenge/salvage gameplay if most gear can outlive its owner.Disease mechanics in SA will make looting bodies a HUGE risk, so taking the chance has to still be tempting.

Friends will always loot your dead body if they can so denying you to loot your own body won't work either. Lastly, the 300 meter engagement distance mean that in many cases its not possible for your assassin to go collect safely.
JIJOK 49 Posted August 25, 2013 Some time ago I played on a server that when you die you are kicked, so die = 10 mins kick/ban is possible ? Anyway if thats possible friend still can loot you then w8 until reconect , but at least ppl can't loot himself
King of kong 1117 Posted August 25, 2013 Bodie rot every hour? I think the "One minute and your body is gone" idea is flawed. What if the killer's game crashed and it took more than a minute to fix it and continue playing?
Skat3rat 1633 Posted August 26, 2013 Like Statik said, DayZ will never be 100% realistic. I don't really think there is much that could be done to stop someone from looting their body after they die. While the zombies ripping apart a dead body is kind of good, it has its own issues. Not being allowed to loot your body after you die isn't a good idea either imo. Especially since it's so easy to die to random glitches and bugs. Hopefully SA won't have glitches and bugs that can kill you but there is still the chance that there will be. I think that if someone wants to run back to their body to grab their gear, then let them. I myself don't usually like to loot my body after I die. Sometimes I'll have my friends grab a few items off my body like a backpack, or gun, but I generally like to start over with looting after I die. However I have nothing against players who loot their body after they die. They took the time to run back to their body so let them get gear from it.
indalcecio 23 Posted August 26, 2013 I may be in the minority, but I don't really see players looting their own body as a problem. The fact that if you just run straight back to your body you'll probably get killed at least a couple times is a disincentive enough IMO. Could just be me, but I actually like the scavenging/starting over part of the game, so when I get killed I rarely go back to my body unless I KNOW no one else is going to get to it and I had something I REALLY didn't want to lose.
