shnoogy 30 Posted August 24, 2013 So i heard dayzero cures cancer and all so i figured i'd give it a shot. After loading in i asked myself wtf is the difference? I am asking honestly here because aside from weapon skins and a different hospital interior i really didn't see any difference at all. Just FYI: I am not some hardcore dayz fanboy knocking this mod of the mod for the sake of it, i am just curious why i should even bother playing it. Non-trolltastic responses would be awsome. Fraggle (DayZ) 15720 Posted August 24, 2013 Apart from curing cancer, turning water into wine and fixing every bug ever seen in DayZ (and even some Minecraft bugs) I hear the performance is rather good.
Statik (DayZ) 2695 Posted August 24, 2013 They made DayZ better. The colours seem more vibrant, and it runs a lot smoother. They added in guns, clothes, etc, retextured many guns, have custom sounds and location. Lots more enter able buildings, and redid the hospital. They also changed some lootspawn locations (i.e. on a table, under a bed, etc). They also redid zombies, kinda. They removed infection, and zombies do more damage per hit, and have a higher chance of making you bleed.

Heathcz 84 Posted August 24, 2013 its much more enjoyable, as the amount of weapons and heli crashes is downed to a minimum, which makes it more like a dayz apocalypse then a wasteland type of gameplay. If there is a human being, that wants to scavenge around chernarus and not get a weapon and pvp in elektro, this is the mod for him.
spaggiari 109 Posted August 24, 2013 And you forgot to mention the tons of new enterable buildings.

toxicsludge 406 Posted August 24, 2013 I played it once for about half hour and wasn't overly excited about it. Might give it another go, just to be sure
Bludy 324 Posted August 24, 2013 it's not bad..atm i split my game time between that and vanilla..it's really smooth and find new weapons and buildings is kind of refreshing
xalienax 621 Posted August 24, 2013 DayZero is basically what vanilla should have done, instead of adding gimickey s*** like OP infections.
BlackDalia 95 Posted August 24, 2013 (edited) Iam finding Dayz Epoch an amazing experiance... I have tried many different variations of Dayz, still love the vanilla, but Epoch has really raised the bar for me and I have not looked back! FrostDMG 398 Posted August 24, 2013 DayZero's Podagorsk is coming out within a week apparently too, since the closed beta is closed for a couple of days now
sobieski12 835 Posted August 24, 2013 (edited) And you forgot to mention the tons of new enterable buildings. This is what made me love the mod. The simple fact that numerous more buildings are enter-able. A perfect example could be the area at green mountain, you can finally enter the checkpoint building near the green mountain gate entrance and you can also enter the two story military building in the compound. Be sure to check for loot carefully in these buildings, some of them could be under the desks. Edited August 24, 2013 by Sobieski12
SoulHunter (DayZ) 233 Posted August 24, 2013 (edited) More enterable buildings, more game-play opportunities, better parformance. But I warn you.. The community of that mod just sucks. The mod is like FPS and average time to live is about max half an hour. You better bring some of your friends into the game if you would decide to join the mod.. You would def need some team-mates there. Edited August 24, 2013 by SoulHunter

SoulHunter (DayZ) 233 Posted August 24, 2013 (edited) Yeah, all of US2 hates me now and thinks I am, quote on quote, a "bad troll". Dickbags. Fix the camera to where it can no longer provide such an advantage, and stop these assholes who think that they're entitled to make everyone play the same as they do. THERE ARE FIRST PERSON SERVERS FOR A REASON. Umm.. Maybe them hating you has nothing to do with you being a part of DayZero? -.-" Edited August 24, 2013 by SoulHunter
jubeidok 495 Posted August 25, 2013 Pretty cool so far, but only had been on for 15-20 mins before a server restart. First thing I noticed was that grounds keeper Willie has been real busy cutting all that grass. =) They have reduced the amount of alphas quite considerably, which is where they probably got a big performance boost. Can't say much other than that. Gonna head back in now and try not to be seen.

SteveLord 32 Posted August 25, 2013 (edited) DayZero loads faster without a doubt. And you respawn a lot quicker. Zombies are more dangerous, but still walk and hit through walls. They can also chase you a lot longer and will not be stopped by running through trees. If you ask me, this gets to the point it becomes downright annoying. But the realism elitists will say otherwise.Modding zombies is something nearly every mod has done anyway. More enterable buildings, but I don't think many people go in them anyway as only a few ones that are known to contain good loot are worth it. Problem with some of these is there is only 1 way in and out, or zombies spawn inside them. So you have a high risk of getting trapped. In this mod a gunshot from ANY weapon will summon the 20 closest zombies. Ammo is more rare as weapons won't usually spawn with 3-4 magazines. Most of them are AK variants. The high level sniper rifles and LMGs can generally only be obtained from crash sites, which are hit or miss in terms of how common they are. Don't assume the game is anywhere near bug free though. Like every other mod, it shares of some Dayz's and includes its own. It might be just another "flavor of the month" thing, like every other dayz mod has been. Overall, I am just okay with it. plexico 386 Posted August 25, 2013 It's not too great. Some people say its amazing and even go as far to say that it's better than the standalone, but to me there is nothing really game changing. There aren't many new enterable buildings, I've played for hours and only found like 5 new types and they didn't contain much loot. Hospital is impressive, though. Only reason I play it is because they have a few first person only servers, which get populated in peak hours. That and the optimization which gives me 5 or so more FPS than usual. JSparks (DayZ) 109 Posted August 26, 2013 I love that there are populated first person only servers.
alsmir 255 Posted August 29, 2013 Simply, the best mod for everyone who enjoyed DayZ before every server implemented extra 500 vehicles, doubled weapon spawns etc. Zombies are tough, it's not easy to find great guns, many locations have been redesigned. On top of that major update is comming very soon (this weekend perhaps).
Jex 1104 Posted August 29, 2013 There isn't much to add but there are some misconceptions by inexperienced players I'm seeing. BuildingsNew buildings are being added. They don't have all of them open but it's a continuing process. The green mountain example spawns military loot, other building spawn normal gear - to say it's "not much better" ignores the fact you have 5 times as many enterbale buildings with more on the way BugsDayZ on Arma2 will never be without bugs. However, unlike vanilla, the dayzero team won't realease anything until it's been tested and optimised as much as they can get it, hence the better... FrameratesYes the grass is gone which helps but better optimisation too - and since most players turn their graphics down to remain competitive, the lack of high grass isn't really an issue but having those extra frame rates is way more noticeable. No InfectionYes this irritating mechanic is gone. Over on the BMRF server nobody plays vanilla anymore, they moved to dayzero servers leaving a handful of people to play vanilla. Zeds hit harder and bandaging is needed more - this is what should happen when you are limited with what you can do with the AI. You can still run around them but getting hit could mean you get knocked out and then you're dead. TreesDon't stop bullets anymore! and zombies can hit you in them. BMRFHave their own map so they've added things to the NE airfield to make it a better place to go plus a lot of other things. What's DifferentNot much - between the vanilla and dayzero it's pretty much the same game. In DZero, tents lack the item numbers, the hud is a little different, there's no temperature thing either (which I have never had an issue with ever in dayz vanilla). What's brilliantYou can play both! Yes that's right, using your brain you can play them both because you with your brain gets to decide! Isn't that awesome? Not only that but you could try other variations like dayz panthera, namalsk, hooker island, cheerleader city and many more.
motopsycho92 6 Posted August 29, 2013 I like the fact that I can max out the view distance and still keep 50 - 60 fps pretty consistently on DayZero, where in Vanilla it would be unplayable for me.

Get in a boat or be forced to sit still in the rain lying on the ground because there is a sniper you haven't spotted yet sitting out there with a good view of your position that seems to have lost you. The times are rare(unless you move around by boat) but it does happen.
