Awesome, Thank you Fraggle.

@ Dub - Me too, I think coming across a camp will be even more nerve-wracking and potentially advantageous in the SA...  Can't wait :)

@ Flux - You mean, like, finding ways to avoid getting hit/sick, or figuring out different ways to treat yourself once you are sick? or both? (probably both).  My intention is to stay away from youtube or any other tutorials for a while after SA is released so that I'll kind of be forced to figure a lot of those things out on my own.  I'm in absolute agreement that trying to figure out ways to survive will be one of the more rewarding elements of the game.

@ DGroove - "Hail to the King, baby"  :D  Yeah, surviving cholera seems like it will be a mini-game all unto itself... I wonder what will be the number 1 killer of survivors... Other players, Zombies, or disease...

As well as the comments above I'm looking forward to the crafting element.  That's something completely new and and I think will become quite a big part of the game.  Working out what to do with all of these new items we'll be finding will be a lot of fun.

Fraggle, when you were taken hostage in the dev blog last week, were there actually zipties being used or was it just the animation?  I'm wondering if you were able to try the mechanic to "break free of restraints".  I'm very intrigued by that mechanic.

That was actually just to demonstrate the new animation/positions.  The different restraints are being added as we speak ;).  The way it works atm is that you press F2 to "surrender".  Your player then puts his hands in the air.  Then you can kneel/crouch with your hands in the air, if you then press crouch again you put your hands behind your back which is when another player will be able to tie you up.

The plan is to have different restraints (eg: cable ties, gaffa tape, hancdcuffs) which each take a different amount of time to wriggle out of.  Time-wise I think they're looking at minutes rather than anything silly and if you log off while restrained it could mean the death of your character so that people don't just combat-log.

It's all subject to change as different things are experimented with but as of now that's the plan I think.

If you logout IA should take care of your character rather than dying (sometimes people has connection failures you know, and would be a shame if that could get your char killed)

Well that just sucks to be that person then.

If you let that one little percent in, people will take advantage of it.

Yeh, unfortunately you can't design a game around unstable internet connections, harsh but true.  My connection very occasionally drops but it's rare enough that I'll just suck it up if it affects the game, as with any other online game I play.  If it got to a point where it was affecting my enjoyment of the game I'd call my ISP and sort it with them.

If you think how rare it'll be to actually be restrained I don't think it'll be an issue unless you're extremely unlucky or have a very poor connection, in which case it'd be for you to resolve it at your end.

not necessarily... as he suggested, a basic set of AI controls could be imposed, leaving the character in-game for a minute or two after they combat-log/get disconnected.

My network node is oversold and every day after I get home from work I get about 30 to 60 minutes of slower and slower internet until I end up pinging over 1000 and get kicked.  After that my internet is screwed until about 1am :/  I'm moving in a few months, but if SA comes out before then I'd hate to have my character killed every afternoon because of my internet.

As TheLastEmp just said. It is not about a kick-ass IA, but more like just some IA bandaging-self, an not even moving unless for avoiding zombies. Only for 2-3 min.

And I would add this for generical purposes, not only when being restrained - and I was also being gentle when mentioning the people with bad internet connections -. My goal would be for this to finally adress the combat-log problem. If you are in any other situation than alone and w/o any zombie/player around, IA should take care of your char if the game loses his connection to the server (be it accidentaly or alt+F4). And this should happen in almost EVERY situation, like being 50m closer to someone who's not your friend (in the case there's some sort of ingame-friendlist), or close to zombies, or being shot at (in fact, if you are in a 1km range of a shootout taking place, you shouldn't be able to disconnect), so as being chase/targeted by zombies, unconscious, seriously harmed or in a core zone such as big cities or airfields (I'm tired of people login on my back inside buildings - wether it is casuality or server hopping).

This is not CS when you play for 20 min, get tired and then just click disconnect. This is closer to an MMORPG game, and In every MMORPG game I know, you MUST think where are you disconnecting if you don't want to die when in a loading black screen due to monsters or another players. On our clan-TS3 thinks like "Gotta go in 3 min, I better get going to a safe zone to disconnect" we're normal. Same goes here I would say.

The one thing I can't wait to do in SA is run around electro nude with my junk flopping to blind snipers, while beating the shit out of zombies with a baseball bat.

I was talking about the restraints specifically.  Combat logging is a whole seperate issue that is being addressed in  more traditional way, eg: After you log out your character actually stays on the server for a certain time.

I can't wait to use the radio system as a means to do friendly favors and supply drops for survivors or groups I can contact indirectly, or to spy on my enemies. Also, the ability to build a base for myself.

Sounds good, but let's be honest most of the time it will be.

I'm really looking forward to those first 2-3 days of pure glory when the script kiddies and hackers don't have the hacks and scripts yet.  Pure heaven listening to their butt hurt trying to survive with no skills, no brains and no scripted gear.

Honestly, and I'm not making this up, I've never had a player attempt to kill me after helping them out (bloodbag, food, etc...)

I dunno If I just get lucky or what... I feel like, at this point, so many coastal bambis are desperate for some friendly interaction that they are too excited to be interacting with a friendly player to make an attempt at murdering.

I know if it were me, and someone cut me free and offered me redemption against my assailants, I would treat that player as a friendly from that point forward.  No questions asked.
