Gdaddy22 299 Posted August 11, 2013 (edited) I'd like to see seasons in DayZ, winter, spring, autumn and summer, a lot of snow during winter and snow camo which is useless during spring would become a perfect camo during winter and during winter you would have to take care of your body temperature more than during other seasons. Every season is 3 real-life months and it's based on actual season in south-east Russia. Edited August 11, 2013 by Gdaddy22

Skat3rat 1633 Posted August 11, 2013 Someone actually just suggested this a few days. Rocket didn't say for sure if it'll be in SA but from what he said it seems to be a possibility. Btw change that font color.
mr_chabowski@live.co.uk 2416 Posted August 11, 2013 (edited) It's been a thought since WAY back. The problem is making a "snow-skin" for Chernarus. Snow drifts, snow on trees, icy ponds, winter foliage etc. They'd essentially have to remake the map AGAIN, which would take months, if not years. It's something which is more likely to happen when the time comes to make another map (specifically for DayZ), which isn't going to be any time soon. EDIT: Q: Will there be seasons within the game and expanded weather, snow and functional clothing?A: In order for us to do seasons properly we would have to create a new map, which we would love to do but it's a lot of work and how we do that, we did discuss at one point about possible DLC to fund quick development of maps or put it on a slow burner where it could take six months, it's really a balancing act of the cost and what else we can do with those resources. http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/116479-interview-with-matthew-lightfoot/page-3#entry1102050 ^ You can thank SmashT Edited August 11, 2013 by Chabowski

IkaikaKekai 1957 Posted August 11, 2013 Been suggested before, not really pheasable with the engine, they would have to make at least 3 additional maps for each season as well as make some HEAVY modifications to the weather system in game.
SalamanderAnder (DayZ) 1747 Posted August 11, 2013 Well if you really think about it, they'd only have to make a winter map, for snow and whatnot. But autumn, spring, and summer would be generally the same map. You could simply retexture deciduous trees to be either green or autumnal to indicate the difference in the milder seasons.

Just retexture the few trees and put yellows leaf textures around the bottom of them :)Snow should only form to the north and not on the coast around sea level. In the winter animals should be less numerous and there should be a push to move indoors for warmth as it should become much harder to start fires as it would be raining so often.A season should pass every fortnight on most servers. IE the public hive will transition to the winter map sometime in late November and stay till spring rolls around.
GrumpyGat (DayZ) 497 Posted August 11, 2013 Here's a suggestion: Don't use colored fonts. It makes my eyes hurt and makes me not want to read what you wrote.

Good ideas, but I would argue that even the coast would experience snow in the winter. The area that it's based on would have lakes frozen over, snow all the way to the water, ect. I'd like to see that. Winter should be brutal. It would be interesting to see what effect (if any) the seasons had on player behavior. Especially since exposure is going to contribute a lot to your overall condition in the standalone. I don't know how you would enforce a season cycle per server, however. As it stands, the full moon nights only exist because the map is locked to a particular date. On top of that, there's almost no way to prevent a server from changing the date themselves. Ideally, I would love to see 24/7 daytime a complete non-option as a server host, along with mandatory seasons. But I just have a bias towards more hardcore gameplay. King of kong 1117 Posted August 12, 2013 I beileve I suggested this in a little more detail, nice idea of bringing it back up though, now Deano Beano can see how much we want seasons.

It would also represent real life as seasons pass and nothing much happens.
wisper 61 Posted August 12, 2013 How about, instead of retuxturing everything in the map, to add specific textures to certain areas per season. For example, during fall we have mud pools on dirt roads and wet surfaces in shady areas. During winter, these pudles can be snow. U don't have to turn everything white to communicate the fact that it is cold...
