Rocket has already stated that there will be a lot more melee weapons in SA.  Which I'm thankful for.  I just hope that they improve the melee fighting system though because it's terrible in the mod right now.  In Arma's defense though it wasn't designed for melee combat.

But you could use them in real life though.

Putting a pool ball in a sock will make a very effective melee weapon. I don't think it's goofy. It would actually make it more realistic.

I'm all for adding new items and features but some things should be with in reason. Personally I don't want SA to go along the lines of Saints Row/Dead Riseing. Where they have Machete controlled Helicopters and D*ldo swords. No thank you.

I think it Rocket said every item in the game will be able to be used in your hand to help your melee.

Obviously most items would be used like a rock or something, but things like the entrenching tool and quickly fastened bottle knife would be used differently in nature.

forgot about hte whole strangulation thing. maybe that would work with socks too... mattress smothering would also be an option along with pillows.

 

EDIT- I don't know how effective using a mattress would be since its kinda unwieldy to carry around. And I cant imagine you sneaking past a zed holding one either.
