arma 2 oa - dayz - steam issue

ok, so I downloaded all Arma 2 and OA , OA beta and dayz mod. After download dayz starting arma 2 OA beta from steam dayz was auto-activated ( not big deal I think ) , starting arma 2 OA from desktop ( steam off )  as dayz is activated says something abot addon ( you know ) WHY !? and there's no the "beta" option to select on expansions. what is wrong with arma 2 OA and  steam not started ???  I am using win xp as ALLWAYS used and never had this problem 

 

pd : please, I beg you dont answer something about "use win 7" 

pd 2.0 : also dont answer "just play arma/dayz using steam"

Hi jijok,

As far as I understood you, you want to play ArmA 2 OA multiplayer and NOT DayZ,  right?

You gotta go into your Arma 2 OA cache, which is "C:\Programs (x86)\steam\SteamApps\common\Arma 2 Operation Arrowhead" and launch ArmA2OA.exe. There you can switch the expansions by clicking on it in Main menu. Now you can disable @DayZ etc. Click OK, then you gotta restart and you can play normal ArmA 2 OA.

maybe now that I was thinking is easier than all I said . I want play dayz WITHOUT using steam , but had problems. 

 

And now that I need steam to play it, I realize that to play dayz need start arma 2 oa beta from steam, not select "play" on dayz from steam

 

If still bad english , launch arma 2 oa from folder with dayz ON doesn't work, launch it from steam works.  Whats the defference btw launch from desktop or steam. If ican play dayz from steam should be same with steam off

Doesn't work this way. There are two different versions of the game, The steam (or steamworks if you like) and the steamless one. You obviously bought the steam version, so trying to run it without running steam prior to this results to an error. Maybe you should have done your homework before buying it from steam if you intented to buy a steamless version. I don't use steam (bought a steamless version of ARMA 2: CO from gog.com) so I could be wrong, although doubt it. Bottom line, if you don't want to run steam in order to run a game, then don't buy said game from steam, and if you buy it from another store make sure it doesn't say steamworks.

thanx for that website !!!   but still, as I said before, I have steam version and never needed to start steam ( except 1st time ) . Anyway just starting steam works so not big deal, but hate it  :D

you dont have to start the game with steam running its not a steamworks game.

 

if you create a shortcut in windows with this at the target

 

"C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead\Expansion\beta\arma2oa.exe" "-beta=Expansion\beta;Expansion\beta\Expansion" "-mod=C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2;Expansion;ca;@dayz"

 

and this in start in 

 

C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead\

 

thats for standard steam install on a 32 bit windows os 

 

that will start the beta load co and dayz
