Is this okay to do? (SSD+HDD question)

Recommended Posts

Can I install Arma 2+Arma 2 OA onto a HDD but override the mod directory so that DayZ and all DayZ maps will be installed and load from my SSD? Will I get a benefit of ssd speeds while playing DayZ this way?

Even though I'm feeling very techie today... I can't help with this one. Haven't had any experience with SSD. But out of curiousness, what are the sizes and models of both your HDD and SSD? I have been looking to go with a lone SSD option for awhile, but I may just go with both.

I have all my days mods and arma on a RAID 0 SSD and I really don't see a difference, maybe just in load times.

I don't know enough about it to offer decent advice but I'd guess you'd only see a noticeable improvent if the whole game directory was stored on an SSD.  It's the rate at which data is transferred that'll improve your performance, only having the map data on the SSD makes me think not much will change as much of the other info the game needs would still be on the HD.

It'd be interesting to know for sure though if you or anyone else tries it, I don't have enough knowledge about it to understand what would work tbh.
