Massive loot spawn and item overhaul

Recommended Posts

Everything's just too basic and easy to get so I find myself getting really bored and just don't see the point of playing much anymore.

I think the big problem is that loot isn't a problem. It wouldn't make much sense but from a gameplay perspective it'd be great to have specific buildings spawn only specific loot and have these buildings scattered around the map. So people are forced to move around the map and the player activity isn't so stale and restricted like it is now.

Also making military loot far less common would mean that when you find good gear you want to keep it and are more inclined to survive because it will be hard to find again. Although I find these changes to be unlikely I think Day Z is in major need of them.

More detailed loot variations would also be a plus, for example backpacks or outfits that have 'free slots' for certain items, binoculars with varied zoom etc.

in more non essential detail...

ATM it's basically a spawn-loot for essential tools (compass, matches...)-move north for military loot. Then after this you can either survive which is pathetically easy if you put your mind to it, kill/help other players or hoard loot. You can even skip the move north step if you find a good gun in the cities. It's tedious and not a great gameplay mechanic. This game is meant to be about surviving how you choose but the driving force to survive is the loot you have.

I don't know what they have planned for stand alone in way of loot and I haven't heard anything about changes to make the map more useful but if something big isn't changed about the way it will work then the game simply wont be worth it. I'd like to just say that I have tired many different maps and mods but none of it really changes it up enough for me to get back into Day Z the way I used to.

The loot system for the SA will be completely different.  For the mod they're very restricted as to what can be done because of the nature of modding another game.

One step to make people value their possessions and lives more and stop the ridicolous "i see a player i shoot the player" mentality because the items they have have more "value" to them. I'm not entirely against fights for a reason but people who think DayZ is just your random BF style team deathmatch piss me off.

I just remembered after this about characters gaining 'skills' or at least being more efficient at things as well. Hope that they've got something special planned :P

It's going to be up to the individual to value their own life on a roleplaying level. If you want your character to survive long term you will need to be more conscious about disinfecting everything, gathering multiple forms of antibiotics, etc.

There are always going to be KOSers that want to ruin your day. I don't see any mechanic being implemented to dissuade these players from doing just that, but with long term survival being more difficult than hiding in the woods with a water bottle and hunting gear (as is the extent of it now), players won't turn to a deathmatch style of play merely out of boredom. Or at least not on the scale we see it in the mod (I hope).

It will be up to you to avoid being killed by these kinds of players. Dean and the dev team will not restrict play style freedom to protect us. Plus, without bandits the game would become static and boring very quickly. Just take it upon yourself to guarantee your survival and let others worry about their own psychopathic tendencies and what that implies about their morality and humanity

While I agree with most of what you said, this post was never about KoS bandits :L more about the fact that Day Z has gotten awfully stale and boring. One of the big reasons I thought, was loot. I hope bandits stay in the game but we need some incentive to want to keep our characters alive.
