DayZ is draining at first...but it's fun.

stuff

Well I was being vague on purpose because I think people enjoy the game more with some rough pointers and tips rather than a strict guide because everyone plays differently. I could write an essay on how I think it should be done but that would remove the fun and exploration for the OP, and he said he like exploring and figuring out how to survive.

Nice tips though.

I get what you're trying to say but honestly aside from randomly bumping into another player in the middle of no where Stary and NWAF are the most exciting places to visit. I'm sure the OP will have pleantly of fun regardless but I was trying to give him some more direction to his stated goal of getting a sniper rifle...

Maybe I did go into a little too much detail but I'm sure he'll do something to mess it up and lols will result.

Fuck you are stupid

If you don't like getting shot, maybe you should attempt to make it harder for other people to shoot you.

You might want to consider a couple of things.

Cover: Any object that blocks a projectile's path. A window will deflect the trajectory of the bullet, might also reduce the damage slightly. A door is better and brick/concrete wall best. Always keep cover close, you always want to be in sprinting distance from cover, so if the first shot misses, the bandit has only little time to make corrections, before you disappear from sight.

Concealment: Any object that blocks angry eyes from seeing you. Hiding in a bush will prevent a bandit from seeing you, however a bush will not offer much cover, if you've already been spotted.

Movement: A moving target is hard to hit. Moving along walls will also provide cover and concealment. Moving unpredictably, instead of long straight lines, will also make it harder for snipers to predict how much to lead you as a target. Generally you want to switch between couched and standing running, based on how close you are to zombies, how exposed you are to sniper positions, how far there are between cover and depending on the surface you run on. If you run from a patch of grass across a road, you want to toggle to crouched running to reduce your noise/sight signature. You want to change direction often, so you don't expose yourself to one direction all the time, but rather present a moving target, appearing and disappearing around corners and walls, so the window of opportunity for a shooter is as small as possible.

Looting: You want to loot fast and be aware of your surroundings. Taking forever to loot a pile of trash in a supermarket with your back against the wall, is asking to get killed. Loot with your back against the wall and always be ready to run. Always be aware of your access/escape routes and seriously next time you come across an obvious trap, instead of stilling still in front of what you know is a deathtrap, don't get so tempted by the cheese, that you willingly spring the trap.

Spawn, run for 20 minutes, find nothing, get shot by bandits.

Been a playing for 5 days and all I want is a sniper rifle and a comfy spot in the hills.

Wait so your complaining because you have to run for 20mins(which you think is boring) when you would much prefer sit still for probably more than 20mins(which by your standards is not boring). What are you going to do when you find your "comfy hill" for a long time and no one shows up? Complain, I think so.

You have alt f4 written all over you once you do find said sniper rifle.

He wasn't complaining, he was asking for advice. What's wrong with wanting to try out a sniper rifle? He didn't say he was going to sit above Electro popping noobs.

How many spawns does that add up to?

You've probably been lucky getting shot. Faster than infection.

I suggest you stay well-hidden and learn to survive the zeds first.

Otherwise, when you do find your sniper rifle, you won't live long enough to get comfy anyway.

In 5 days you can have a heli, NVGs, ghillie suit, nice sniper, nice primary etc.

That is if you are really lucky, but also if you know what you are doing. Often groups store tents far north. If you find/repair a vehicle and know the location of a broken heli. You can find the parts and store in the vehicle, then when finally done looting repair the heli. Hide the vehicle and then fly around in the north looking for urals or tents.

That is, move the time/effort of finding a rare sniper or NVGs from yourself onto others. It is easy to get loot if you kill others too. :D

But uh yeah that's what I did. Hopefully the heli won't get stolen too.

I also managed to trade with a couple of bandits, antibiotics. I am a bandit myself soo... yeah we are not all evil. That requires side chat.

How many spawns does that add up to?

I believe it's 360 respawns.

(24hours*60minutes*5dayz)/20minutes = 360

something like that.... xD

He wasn't complaining, he was asking for advice. What's wrong with wanting to try out a sniper rifle? He didn't say he was going to sit above Electro popping noobs.

No he didn't actually say "going to sit above Electro popping noobs" but it doesn't take a genius to work out what he wants out of the game, and that my friend is piggybacks all the way.

Also if it's not Electro hill like you say then it won't be far away, going by OP's comment's saying he wants a "comfy spot in the hills"

If someone came running along the coast and the first thing they said to me is "Hey where can I find a Sniper" I would guide them safely to debug and happily break there silly little sniper wannabe legs.

Survival should always be the first aspect of the game, and in no way shape or form does one need a sniper to survive.

If one finds a sniper on the route to surviving, unlike our OP which says he dies every 20 mins, then by all means sit on your hill and snipe away, But in my eye's you are looking at the game all wrong or at least backwards.

If you had been playing the game for a fair while and still struggling, then yeah I could understand , But after a few days of dying and no results from youtube you want it handed to you.

The OP would have hated playing Dayz at the beginning if he thinks it's hard or whatever atm, I and lots of others had to wait an hour and a half just to log in........

But hey that's just me.

I know I'm being a noob. That is why I don't play with others when they ask for teaming up. I don't want to hinder anybody while I am still learning the game.

Stealth and being careful is a fun part of this game, but I just wanted some tips on how to get a sniper quick because I haven't even look down the scope of one yet to see how far it can zoom!

I expect whiny-noob remarks. I don't mind sacrificing my ego in order to get some suggestions.

Thanks for the replies so far, too. I'm heading to Stary or whatever it's called in the middle.

If it makes the negative posters in this thread feel any better, I would also like to find a car that works or even a bicycle if they exist. (thought I saw a guy riding a bike 6 months ago in a DayZ video)

So it's not about being this or that. Sniper gun was just next on my list of activities to try.

Besides, I rarely ever find anything and I take my time sneaking around fencelines, crouch-walking hugging walls, staying in shadows, flattening out when I have to, avoiding open fields and roads.

Losing aggro on Zs isn't hard either.

I even laughed last night when I spent 20 mins running thru wilderness to get to a big city then as soon as I get the closest I have been to a hangar, 3 bandits kill me. "die muh fugga" some kid's voice says after.

It's fine, just wanted some advice, thanks!

Hang on a sec,, You start by saying "I know I'am being a noob" then finish by saying "I expect whiny-noob remarks".

Just a little contradictory don't ya rekon.

Like I said earlier all you are after is everything wrapped up in a neat little package and handed to you that's not Dayz,,thats, that's well that's just warZish (couldnt thing of a better word)

Once you get in the general vicinity of Stary roam the open plains and hills in nice big arc, look for the tell tale smoke of heli wrecks and always keep an eye open in the forest for tent stashes. If you look at the Chernarus map and draw a diamond from Vybor to Gvodzno/Berezino/Mogilevka- within that diamond, mainly in the open field areas is where you will have the best chance of finding wrecks and your hoped for sniper.

Stary, and the barracks at NW field are your next best bet but the adventure in exploring the map, finding vehicle spawns and small out of the way towns is awesome. Never..ever, do the heli run without 2 x morphine :)

Get away from the coast, it's a hole ;)

Hey thanks! That's Hetfield in your avatar is it not?

Anyways, I should have also noted that I mainly play on a PVP server that equips you with map, gps, ak and pistol and some ammo and other stuff.

So it's not survival really.

Also, I ran to Stary from the coast and I'm still a ways out but so far it's taken me 45 with pauses.

I found a deer stand with nothing in it and a tent hidden in the brush behind it.

What can I do with the tent? I looted an empty FAL then left.

I know I can look this stuff up but it's so much easier when a player explains it in a sentence or two.

The players on the server say the deer stands are broken and not to waste my time.

Then they said loot spawns based on player activity in an area.

Firstly, I'd advise finding a server that doesn't start you off with gear etc. Sure it's nice and handy but the fact that everyone's starting like that means you're gonna get shot a lot more than usual as it's a PVP focused server so it's going to attract a lot of players who's sole aim is to have firefights.

PVP is an important element of DayZ but not the focus. However, that's up to you really and how you like to play.

Tents allow you to store your gear in them. They will stay there indefinately but hide it well because others can find it and steal your loot.

I only kept playing the PVP + Gear server because I spent a few days not finding anything but ammo and glow sticks.

I only find tents. Can they be taken and deployed in a brush somewhere? I know they are accessible to all if found but I have yet to find a tent that is mine that I can hide someplace.

Still trying to piece this game together. Like how the servers work.

The way I see it, you start with nothing every time you play unless you have a tent on a certain server with some gear that hasn't been taken yet?

Some players make it sound like they have gathered vehicles, weapons, supplies and it stays with them server to server?

Confused.

Sorry, I think I'm gonna stop asking questions out of your answers. You gotta live too. lol

You need to find your own tents, you can loot others and then hack them down with an axe if you want or just leave them and take what you need. Once you pitch your own tent you can pack and move it as long as you are alive, once you die and respawn you lose the repack ability.

That Fal you scored is a beast of a gun but you can only find ammo for it at heli wrecks so it can be a burden.

The players on the server say the deer stands are broken and not to waste my time.

Then they said loot spawns based on player activity in an area.

There's all kinds of servers, playing different Dayz versions with different spawn locations.

Your best bet for that sniper and a vehicle is trying to makes some friends on the server you're playing on.

Hell, some admins will teleport to you and hand you a DMR. Some servers might give you one in your loadout for a "donation."

So it's really hard to give good advice when you're not on an "official" server.

But teaming up with people on that server with side chat is your best bet. You sound like a decent enough guy.

So if somebody texts "Hey Roy, meet me at the Cherno grocery. Got a DMR for you," just head on over there.

If he kills you, there's not much difference in what's happening now, right?

But it'll be more fun.

On "official" servers you keep what gear you have on your body, including your backpack, across ALL "official" servers. Anything else, like hidden tents and contents, and vehicles, is stored ONLY on the server where you placed it. That's assuming you log off alive.

If you die, you start from scratch with whatever loadout the server gives for carried gear.

You won't lose your tents and stashes though. They'll still be on the server, as long as you access them occasionally.

On "unofficial servers" everything is kept, but ONLY on that server.

You go to another "unofficial" server you haven't been to before, you start from scratch with whatever loadout the server provides.

DayZ Commander has a tick box to exclude "unofficial" servers. It's not perfect, but close enough.
