Hatchet!

You just stranded on a apocalyptic island? Some of it's inhabitants allready stated their interest in your intestines? You seem in the need of a weapon! Try the hatchet! OHK every zombie that dares to come near you! And it doesn't even need ammo! Also, if you care to be stealthy: It doesn't even make a sound! Well, except for a tasty "chunk" but most zombies are completey occupied by making creepy noises, eating someones intestines and so on... Zombiestuff you know.

Go to your nearest item-spawn and get yourself a Hatchet! Now!

The only weapon I found so far^^

15 Zombies down and still above 10000 blood, so I think it is a valid weapon as long as you don't end up in a gunfight. x)

Why I think this Thread is necessary? I don't. I'm just to scared to keep playing right now!

Alright, we reached the next achievement. DayZ has become DayCoD. Now I see guys running from corner to corner with a hatchet on his shoulder in Cherno, and not only in Cherno, also in Zeleno or whatever place.

They will run to you, no matter if you empty a mag and you kill them, the lag will make them reach you and chop your head off in one fucking hit before they die.

Fucking great.

Meelee weapons are meant to be used in desperate situations, when there is no other way, this should be a weapon that kills in two hits, or its RoF it's slower, or whatever. This needs a change pretty soon.

The hatchet seems a bit overpowered at the moment - maybe you should take some damage from a zed whenever you use it as you are up so close .

It's got some wierd stuff going on with it aswell, I had one earlier and tried to put it in my pack so I could pick up a crossbow and it obviously disapeared because my starting pack didn't have enough slots. I was left with something in my inventory called hatchet but it only took up one slot and had the icon for shotgun cartridges, after losing my crossbow bolt I decided to pick up another hatchet but was unable to, the option was there but I unable to pick it up - I dropped my crossbow so I had enough slots available.

all a bit odd.

Honnestly, melee weapons should be as important as guns specially in a survival. Being forced to stay close , and stuff like that and keeping a good pressure on players , but with good mechanics added

example: weapon durability, probability for some weapons to stay inside body, to break, to rip from your hand , etc etc.

+ it open the door for crafting items with what you find, it add lot of interesting loots pieces you can combine. So you'll maybe have some more use for the whiskey bottles, scraps metals , wire ,wood, and of course more items can be added with combinations, like the same way you repair a car or you cook meat.

If you get killed by a player with a hatchet when you have a gun, you need to re-evaluate your shooting technique.

Yep i would like the option that when you pick up a hatchet for the first time you have an option to use as a weapon or have it permanently in your utility slot as it was before to chop wood. Once in utility slot it can not be used as a weapon.

You makes ya choice.

We need the hatchet as equipment.. there must be other melee weapons that could be introduced instead, OR let us gather wood from forest floors by hand.

I understand a crowbar was added as well although I still have to see it. Making the hatchet a primary weapon by removing it from the gadget inventory was a terribad idea imo. Could have just made another gadget or primary weapon and kept both in game instead.

Or introduce a replacement melee weapon instead of the hatchet.

Baseball bat. Broken fencing post. Big tree branch. Maybe the flashlight as a weaker hitting halve-sized crowbar. Anything.

I agree with the hatchet needing to be reverted as a tool as well.

It makes no sense for the hatchet to be categorized as a weapon. I've been hunting, gathering and cooking my own meat since I started playing this mod and now I find myself unable to gather my own wood because I'm not going to drop my primary and have it disappear to carry a hatchet....

The Hatchet and while we are at it, the Flashlight are both tools in the real world thus they should both be categorized as tools in order to be carried in the tool section of your inventory.

Not in a 5 meter range when people is waiting you beyond the walls. if you've played ArmA long enough you'll know about its lag issues and that there is a small amount of time since you shoot him until he is actually dead, in that time he can easily reach you and chop your head, no matter how good you are shooting.

In fact, when I was killed by a hatchet he died with two shots which I shot before he did anything.

To be honest, I have to agree with Keurk. Meelee weapons are quite important in a Zed survival mod like this one, what I say is that is overpower and that makes nosense. If 15 zombies jump to you, you should be dead.

Killing them all reminds me to left4dead meelee that holds any kind of Zombie hordes.

What I think is that meelee weapons should be taken as a desperate measure, meaning that for example you kill in two hits, or that the rate between hit and hit is much slower.

The hatchet i would believe is not as overpowered as others may seem to be, using the hatchet outside in my experience is ridiculous zeds hit you twice and their warpyness makes the axe derp and miss even though hes in front of you.

Although in buildings, yeah well... The zombies speed is a walk, axe or not unless your out of ammo or in some unconceivable way you cant d/c, chances are your gonna live. :P

On terms of DMG. I understand this is a game and that is just dandy candy :rolleyes:. But lest not throw realism out the window. If your hit with an axe, even a dull one its gonna #!@%$#@ hurt if not kill you. But If the is sharp enough axe can chop down a tree or branches for wood :@, then i can kill a zombie in one hit, Undead or not unless their clothes are lined with lead, im pretty sure there just flesh that will be cut down.... But A wear down system of the axe, Like after X zombies the Axe is Y sharp, and you could go to a near by pond and clean to keep rust off or a rock to sharpen and restore its sharpness to an optimal level, but eventually it would turn to an almost useless item. (just an idea)

Aside all this, Axes are ridiculously easy to find out of the 14 barns i ran into today, 5 of them had more then 2 hatchets and 6 of them contained 1. There commonitry (made of up word :sleepy:) is almost spam like...

On another note You ever tried chopping down a tree or a BRANCH with a dull axe! It doesn't work lol!!!!

Sword. Code in a sword melee weapon at a castle, and let the chaos fester as the battle to be King Hacknslash begins! A police baton and a pitchfork would be interesting as well. There are options for the future, I'm sure, when the Alpha becomes a Beta and these things can be added. For now, patience, and let's hope the bugs are exterminated as the hot fixes fly forth, and make the hatchet a belt weapon.

I agree, the hatchet is the single most useful zombie weapon.

It kills in one hit and is completely silent. If you ever happen to trigger a zombie, just spam LMB until the zombie is down since , which won't take long. You probably only need to take one hit, if at all, and you do not alert any other zombies and you dont need to worry about ammo. In my mind the hatchet made any other weapon pointless for zombie defence. Also, it fits snugly on your toolbelt if needed.

I think they need to tone down the lethality a bit, maybe make it a 2-4 hit kill.
