Can't see helicopter crash loot

I've got a problem whereby I can't see loot around helicopter crashes, even if it's directly in front of my gun barrel. All I can do is run 100m away, look back to where the grass is cleared and then line myself up with a loot pile and run back. Even then I often can't find it. I have my GFX all on high and would prefer not to drop the quality just for this issue. Even when I drop loot on the ground elsewhere on the map it often vanishes. Any ideas?

But you can still interact with the loot, correct?

If you can, then your best bet is to move around the helicopter crouched, and do a little sweeping motion with your crosshair from side-to-side. You'll eventually hit something to pick up, if there is anything.
