[SA Suggestion]: Taking Cover

Recommended Posts

This is just something that came into mind. I was thinking maybe there should be an option to take cover behind an object or a wall. This could be useful for when you are being shot at by other players. While you are in cover, it can be possible to quickly aim and shoot your gun, and go back into cover again. You can also hug a wall and take a look at what's around the corner. Unless someone already made this suggestion, maybe it could be a good idea.

You mean that kind of cover used in most of 3rd person shooters, which you crawl and aim up quickly ? (like this : http://tinyurl.com/mtxdct7 )

I don't know, it's being discussed alot here about the third person view colossal advantage against the FPS view. I cannot see this fitting in a hardcore(fps view) server.

Stance adjustment and Q/E leaning will fill that role.

Cover systems tend to cheapen gameplay and restrict players rather than assist them.

I'm sure some folks are fans, but I'm not.

I find myself getting killed more because of cover issue glitches in games that have it than just simply crouching behind cover or hiding behind something.

Yeah, as Skat3rat said, it's kinda of unpredictable to know if your character body is properly under cover, but this resource of CROUCH TO COVER(not to shoot) and etc , do you guys have any ideas how it could fit to a first person gameplay without bring those problem i metioned ?

That's a good point. I can see it fitting in 3rd person view, but 1st person view might be a little issue. Maybe it's not the brightest idea...

You mean something like this?

Needless to say I don't quite understand. ^_^

I don't want a sticky cover system when we already have a perfectly fine lean and stance system. (Which was improved in A3, and presumably will be in SA).

Being able to rest weapons on things would be nice though. Hitting CNTRL + something (depending on whether you changed your controls or not) to reduce recoil/sway/whatever. Make bipod an attachment for rifles/sniper rifles. (ArmA 3 has a great mod for weapon resting)

Yep.

I just wish ArmA 3 recoil wasn't so fucking ridiculous without having to cheat the configs around.
