Walking Dead Mod

Recommended Posts

Hello, I have a great idea. First of all, it should be pretty obvious that the show Walking Dead has played a huge part in the recent zombie craze that makes this mod successful. With that caveat, it makes sense that many players would like to play a Walking Dead style, so here are the things that would be required.

1. Zombies shouldn't run

2. Zombies should have biting animations instead of punching

3. Zombies should require head shots for kill

4. One bite equals death

5. Zombies shouldn't be able to open strong doors

6. Every door should be openable

I'm sure there are more things as well. Basically, zombies shouldn't run because they should be one-bite one-kill anyway, so the tension is in simply encountering one in a closed space, such as an indoor area. Also, they should require head shots for kills. This way, it is still balanced, as the zombies movement abilities are nerfed, but their kill capability has been increased indefinitely with the one-bite death. It's impossible to play the game since all it is is the person constantly running away from zombies. It should be more about getting in and out of buildings fast enough. Zombies shouldn't be a threat in large open areas except by the occasional sneak up attack from someone not paying attention etc. Also, indoor locations should be safe havens as long as the door is strong enough to barricade, but it should be balanced by the zombies' ability to group up and wait outside the longer one holds up inside, to remain balanced. Optionally, the locations from the show can be constructed including the downtown area, the neighborhoods, the prison etc. if some things are not possible, such as the biting animations, at least make the zombies not run, and be one-punch deaths instead of one-bite deaths.

I think slower zombies that are more powerful is the way forward, but one bite death might be a little harsh.

Also i am confused to why someone has not made a map that resembles the walking dead.

It would need a lot of work. The zombies are essentially a non issue now and they run like Usain Bolt.

Walking zombies would pose no threat at all unless you could bump up the population significantly.

1. They are not zombies, they are only infected. 2. They are not zombies, they are only infected. 3. They are not zombies, they are only infected. 4. They are not zombies, they are only infected. You are immune to the virus. 5. They are not zombies, they are only infected. They are strong as hell to the degree that they should snap their own bones because they can't judge their strength. 6. Already done for the SA afaik. Edited by Enforcer

/agreed. But if any hit would be a potential dead, then a little bit slow zeds would make much sense imo. As an example of this kinda zeds;

If the zeds would be like that^ and would be so powerful with their infection etc, then it would be more fun to run from them tho :P It would then make us feel "really" scared if we would see some zeds around us. =)

I would also go with dangerous zeds with high speeds but in such case it would be near impossible to survive then.. It is not needed for the zeds to be slow like hell, but they can at the very least be a lil bit slow so we can have much more experience facing those zeds..

Idk... but the map looks super ugly. The Screenshots are saying: Dont buy this grap! The level of detail is 1995. And fuck... the engine needs some AA support as fast as possible or if it is already in the dev whos made the screenshot should switch form onboardgpu to a real grapic card.

On the other hand they have some nice gameplay ideas. Lets have a second look in 3 month.

it is definitely what you would call an alpha - it needs a lot of work, but the core mechanics are very interesting.

the community of that game was saying that the game was being prepared to move Unity Engine.. If real, not a "great" choice imo..

the walking dead isnt the reason for the surge in zombie games. the fact that zombie games are fun is to blame.

inb4 walking dead is a masterpiece of modern storytelling

IT ISNT.

That actually looks like a great step in the right direction. They even started implementing things I wouldn't have even though we're viable yet, such as the ability to take materials ad construct barriers, forts etc. The obvious major downside is the extremely poor graphics and ultra Alpha look. If that improves, it will definitely sell.
