Lets discuss how unfun this game is for people who work Nights...

Recommended Posts

I am one of many people on earth who actively work during the night and sleep during the day...and I am now since 1.7 running into an issue of being unable to play this game anywhere that isn't nighttime on the server...

I live on the East Coast of the United States, and at 3am (Like at the moment) I am awake and I want to play...and obviously every US server running the current 1.7.1.4 patch for a reasonable 30-90ms is nighttime.

So I try other countries:

Lithuania servers 150ms -> Nighttime

Russian servers 175ms -> Nighttime

EU / NetherLands servers 130ms -> Nighttime

Obviously the option would be to join a KR or JP server but I can't find any as my ms would be well into the 300s and well beyond unplayable with this current Zombie bug of and amount of non-crawl movement agro-ing everything within 200m. As well as starting with nothing but a flashlight now.

I love the concept that this game is "Real" to as much realism as possible but can't it be a "game" in some aspects too...I don't mind having nighttime but can't it work more like the old Zelda: Ocarina of Time model where daytime is slowed down to last longer and nighttime is sped up by 30x so that is passes much faster than daytime so the effect is the same...but that you can actually enjoy the game at any hour of the day?

Because currently playing DayZ at these hours is beyond unbearable. And I want to enjoy it...

As i've said before, I think they should keep the 24hr night/day cycle, but make it random for each server instead of matching it to the server's location.

In fact, some servers seem to be doing this already.

I am aware EnermaX but a Lot of them have no shifted to 1.7.1.4 yet. Most if not all of the Atlanta/NY/VA servers I've been watching have not been shifted to have altered timezones. They run on the standard clocks.

there is absolutely zero chance that you checked all US based servers without finding a single that is day-time. i play at night time all the time and i never even have to think about this. for instance right now i just logged off seattle 57 which is daytime

high population is usually an indicator of daylight

Jeah it is a problem, i already made a thread couple days ago! But it seem to be a pretty big deal to change the time, because that day/night system is from the actuall arma game and therefore not easy to modify. I go everytime during the night on american server, but i have a 100k dsl connection, so i almost never got problems with my latency

With the hotfixes coming out every few days currently it's hard for servers to keep up. Once the updates start to slow down a bit it will give the server owners time to update to the most current version.

@revenoff not everyone wants to always be on a high pop server all the time.

I work nights, and i think the game was massivly fun up till today. There are definitly issues that need tweaking.

The stealth system is currently broken. which ruins any fun in night ops.

Night gamma still needs tweaks to how dark it can get.

Broken legs are currently near 50% likelyhood per hit it seems.

Some of the best times ive ever had gaming have been ninja bean runs at 5am

Ive linked this video elsewhere, but imma do it again because imo this is how night should be balanced and i hope the devs see it

I would like to see a protracted day/night cycle. Maybe make a "day" 7 hours so you get 3 cycles per real day.

I'm in the UK working a 9am - 5pm job, and by the time I get home, the servers that will give me a reletively good FPS/ping will also, unfortunately, give me about 2 hours of sunlight before I have to start playing with no light.

Therefore, I get my real sessions in at the weekend if I'm not busy, or suck it up and play on a daylight server where I'm gonna get sucky pings.

I know what you're saying though - as cool as the relative time system is, it's a little bit of a pain.

It's just blah...and as soon as you sacrifice your flashlight for a pistol so you can defend yourself it becomes impossible to get back out of major cities at night...=/ and getting nightvision takes traveling to areas that really aren't the most friendly.

Play on a daylightserver or quit. Nothing else you can do about it and I really dont see your problem. Why dont you just go to a daylightserver? Can only speak for EU servers and we have more than enough of them. Played yesterday till 3 in the morning and the only problem we had was finding a server where we all could go (only two of us). I think that shouldnt be a problem when more are updated.

Well too bad? I'm sorry that playing with other people in a multiplayer game designed to be played with a lot of other people makes it unfun for you. Sounds like this game isn't for you.

It seems to me that putting the day/night cycle at about 16 hours would solve this (or somethign along those lines). 16 hours would mean that if you log on at regular hours you will be in a cycle where you log in at tree different times of day, on day four it will be the same time of day as day 1, etc.

This will give variation to everyone but still maintain long days where you have plenty of time to do things.

I just sucked it up and learned to use flares (it's not like they aren't everygoddamnedwhere). In cases where I want daylight, like when I have to do lots of wilderness travel, I log onto servers with 300+ pings. It reminds me of playing Quake2 with a P.O.T. line and a 450ms ping. Oh the golden age...
