Lepryy 54 Posted June 26, 2013 I've noticed this game is very CPU intensive so I'm going to upgrade for the mod and (mainly) the standalone. I know the standalone will be better in terms of performance but I still want a really nice CPU. But my basic question is: would I be better off with a 4.2 GHz Dual Core, or a lower GHz Quad Core? nik21 287 Posted June 26, 2013 would I be better off with a 4.2 GHz Dual Core, or a lower GHz Quad Core?Totally depends on the CPU model. You can't compare CPU gaming performance by the clock speed or the number of cores.
lvg 1690 Posted June 26, 2013 Depends how low you want a quad core, i would personally go for a Quad over a dual as in the long run it tends to be better with recommended requirements for games hitting quad now. As well as just general purpose stuff on your computer, think about would you rather have tasks done faster or be able to do tasks at a slower rate.
=DiG= Zgraphz 84 Posted June 26, 2013 the game runs off three main components, Your HDD, CPU and GPU. the reason the HDD is apart of the list is before arma 2 runs everything off files called PBO files, which are files that contain images that need to be indexed by the HDD. SSD usually are the top contenders in this field because they are much cheaper than high performance HDD, But, a SSD will not increase your FPS, what it does is it moves all 500Pbo files in a sec, instead of 3 secs with a normal 7200rpm. You would think well 2 secs isn't that big of a deal, over the course of 2 mins. it adds up, then bottlenecks, thats the reason why when you first join your fps is good if not decent but then it starts to drop. dual cores are neat, but i wouldn't ever get one. quad core and up is the best, the speed of the processor should be 3.0ghz (intel) 3.5ghz (AMD) and for graphic cards (Nvidia) Gtx ge-Force gtx 4 series and up (ATI) HD radeon 7 series and up... good luck mate
Lepryy 54 Posted June 26, 2013 Alright. Well if anyone was wondering this was the CPU I was looking at: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819113336But now I think I'll go for quad core, that seems to be the gist of what I'm getting here. hollenfeuer88 124 Posted June 26, 2013 To save cash I would suggest an AMD CPU. Just get a higher quality one than that. Don't let anyone tell you AMD is useless. Its all you really need for gaming.
=DiG= Zgraphz 84 Posted June 27, 2013 AMD is great for gaming, just get the beefy ones
taco241 393 Posted June 27, 2013 If you'd like to play DayZ without much hassle, You're going to have to spend a bit more cash than that CPU you linked.I would opt for AT LEAST an i5 2500K, even if it means getting a new motherboard.
