Everybody too lazy to get whitelisted?

Recommended Posts

Sup,

Ok, so I have a server running that is whitelisted, and on a daily basis, about 200 people (unique) get kicked.

And maybe if I'm lucky, one per month actually sends an email to get whitelisted.....

Am I doing something wrong, or are a lot of players too lazy to send an email?

Thanks in advance.

100 of those 200 players hacked, and yes, they are too lazy to send you an email.

Yup, most people really are too lazy to get whitelisted. That's why building a popular whitelisted server takes a lot more time and effort than others, you have to shout it from the rooftops and let people know why they should join your server.

Having to make an effort to join is one of the main reasons whitelisting works so well IMO. It only takes 5 mins but that's 5 mins that scripters can't be arsed with. Hackers/scripters are inherently lazy, they can't even be bothered to figure out a game properly and would rather use shortcuts to get all the leet gear they want so getting whitelisted is just something they can't be bothered to do.

Speaking of good whitelist servers, anyone know some good servers like such?

Balota Buddies.

People get sick of hearing it because we always bang on about it but it's one of the best IMO. The admins are knowledgable and can be trusted (many of them are moderators here so are answerable for their actions) and they now have a solid and fun community.

I've also heard really good things about the BMRF servers although I have no personal experience with them. They do get mentioned a lot though and their users seem to hold them in high regard.

Ok, well I think I know what to do then. Put even more effort into the server than I already do and shout it all over all of the rooftops of DayZ, and see if it helps.

Thanks for the answers.

ITO7, you can always do public pushes to promote your whitelisted server. Open up the flood gates to the public for a month and let players try out your server while showing you are active. Inform your population when the 30 or so days time limit is reached it is returning to whitelisted and they need to contact you for whitelisting to continue playing.

Sounds like a plan, but the reason why I have the whitelist on is because of hackers. Seriously, the only thing you see on public servers is hackers, hacker, hackers and "hackers".

It's a tricky balancing act. You need to find a way to advertise your server whitelisted or not. For starters you should make a good advert on here in the private server section listing your features etc. Give it a cheeky bump once a day with new info etc and you should be able to start drawing a few peeps in. The first bit is the hardest because nobody wants to play on an empty server..

BMRF servers are fantastic, as are Balota Buddies.

JK, both are great.

Agreed, but if you are active and use any of the readily available AH's out there through http://opendayz.net/ you should be able to keep them in check. Once your current population gains the confidence in you from seeing how you handle the server on the public end they will trust in you to keep the server hacker free when turned back to whitelisted. Ultimately giving you a quick pop boost and clean players.
