I support the idea of food presevation in principle but the amount of salt needed to preserve meat is large, far larger than what a billy, camp oven or massive drum could bring. Just use the fire itself! Preserve using smoke. Smoked meat is preserves well, could also throw up a smoke signal adding some risk via signals to other players but the reward is presvered high yield meat. Salting meat via boiled sea water is not viable.

True, but the whole "Authenticity before realism" thing applies here.

Can I throw the salt on the wounds of my enemies?

Can I salt the ground of my enemies' camps so no tents will ever grow there again?

Yes it will. Salt stings like hell and kills some of the surface tissue, but it drys the wound out and helps to disinfect it.
