New player new question

I have heard countless amounts of great things about this game and decided to buy it but seem to be having problems even joining games.

I fully downloaded it from Steam and it said something about an invalid c.d. key.. but still let me on.

Most of the games I try to join have a red version on it (i have 1.62 but it requires 1.62.101480)

A game I finally did join had some players typing.. but I was a bird and could only fly around aimlessly.

I am very confused about even getting in to a game.. much less playing it.

Anyone willing to big brother me into this amazing experience would be greatly appreciated!

Try starting Arma 2 and Arma 2 OA each on their own if you haven't already.

If you aren't using DayZ Commander, you should. You can get it here.

Try deleting your DayZ file and reinstalling it. It should be in your Arma 2 OA Folder and named @DayZ

Restart your computer and make sure everything is "run as admin" if you have a version of windows that does that.

I downloaded it all straight from steam.. I'll try from this site and hopefully that will fix it!

You have to set steam to run as admin (right click the shortcut and select run as admin) , thus is important: you have to run AO first before dayz, then it should be ok, I followed those steps and it fixed the problem.

Okay! So I did this and everytime I join a game it just sets me at a black screen for a while, then pops up with a : name (sargent someone, time alive i assume and a disconnect button but it keeps me there.

Another thing I would like to mention is whenever I try to load it comes up "Invalid c.d. key".. which I just bought this from steam and am slightly confused by.

Still cant get into a single game D:

Tried reinstalling 3 different times.. no dice.

followed the directions on this forum to a 't' and watched the video and followed side by side..

Says a picutre in my GUI (addons, @dayz) is missing.

Other then that, just freezes once it gives me a name / alive time (stuck @ 0 minutes)

Since I can't figure out how to post screen shots, but all the information it says when I try to boot up a game is:

battleeye client: initialized (v1.201)

Registration failed: invalid cd key

Battleeye client: Server requiring client version 1.201. Up-to-date

Battleeye client: server computed guid: 51ead67a70c... (big string of numbers / letters)

I have, at best, gotten into a single game where I took possession of a bird and flew around aimlessly for 5 mintues waiting to spawn in and never did.

Something went wrong with your installation. Wrong betaversion, wrong modversion etc. I've been there. Also the 'invalid cd key' which had me worried for a while.

- verify your gamecache of Arma 2 and Arma 2 OA in Steam (for each game)

- let it redownload files if it wants to.

- check if you can start Arma 2 (start it, see if it works)

- check if you can start Arma 2 OA (same as above)

- check if you can start Arma 2 CO (that's A2 and A2 OA combined)

If this all works:

- check DayZcommander, verify if all updates are installed (beta patch / dayzmod)

- try to join a few servers.

- If it still doesn't work) use DayzCommander to re-install the beta-patch / dayzmod.

It must work after you checked all above.

Thanks! I will try both of these and edit in a reponse.

Another problem is that I have no "combined operations" run as option.. I bought it as "combined operations" but can't figure out how to run it as so.. I hope thats not the reason why it won't work and its a stupid detail I did not add!!

Tried validating both, both said 1 file failed to validate. I have tried reinstalling multiple times.. is there another way?? It doesn't give the option to reinstal the single file that it didn't verify

You shouldn't have to run CO so long as you can launch both Arma II and OA.

It should just download those files automatically, that's how it works. Have you tried to enter a server after you validated, ran the games, and downloaded DayZ and your Arma II beta patch?

Yes I have, and the invalid c.d. key message pops up

As stated, the closest I got (don't know what I entered) was I became a bird and flew around aimlessly.. got bored after realizing I wasn't going to spawn in and quit

Still the issue of steam saying "1 file not validated"

Reinstalled, am running as admin, still not installing properly.

lose steam

start steam in admin (right click and run as administrator)

right click on arma2 and properties then local files

click on verify integrity of game cache <-- do it twice

and do the same for arma2 oa

run arma2 to the menu

run arma2 oa to the menu

click in expansions

make sure the following are enabled

arma2

arma2 oa

arma2 baf lite

arma2 pmc lite

if not enable them and restart then exit the game

that should solve your cd key issues

if not do you have teamviewer and i will take a look

After 6-7 reinstalls.. it is still saying invalid c.d. keys but is now letting me in games! Yey.
