Probably not. I'm sure someone else came up with it before. I just put together this graphic, and made the suggestion. Sorry if it's already been made, but I hadn't heard about it.

i'm going to post what i've already posted there:

However Rocket, your idea is flawed. What about the guy that donates? will his blood-level decrease by the exact amount, so that everyone who donates needs a donater for himself again, and so on... there's got to be another way!

OBJECTION: The person who donates, just like in real life, can eat something and slowly regenerate blood. Thats why they give you a cookie to eat after you donate at a blood bank.

However: i know what happens IRL, but i was talking about the game. if you could just eat something to get healthy again why would you need bloodbags in the first place?! ;).
  • A has blood level X and needs Y blood to be at full health again.
  • B donates Y blood to A.
  • B has now blood level X and A has full blood.
  • B needs Y blood......

OBJECTION: If you are badly injured your body won't recover itself, that's why you need blood. Eating and drinking give you blood OVER time, it is a slow process, but you have to be healthy to product enough blood. Donating can save someone, then you could both regenerate some blood slowly, instead of having one dead body and a fresh person next to it :)

So then we need probably something like the following:

How about dividing the health "bar" into three segments

severe - major - minor/healthy

if health drops below...

...severe;
blood degenerates slowly till player deceases, antibiotics, treatment, blood bags needed to raise player into "major"-segment

...major;
blood level stays constant...inreases just very slowly, need bandages and rest to raise player into "minor"-segment

...minor;
blood regenerates much faster

or something similar..

Yeah. That's what got me thinking of it. I didn't take his meaning as direct transfusions. I thought he meant "harvesting" blood bags from other survivor's over-all blood pool. Thus all the vampire comments. Direct transfusion would be voluntary, and would most likely weaken the healthy player temporarily. It would also take a pretty long time. I was thinking about blood storage, and remembered this from some military history I've read.

EDIT: I posted this on /rdayz too. I don't really care about credit in any case. I just think it would be cool to have it in the SA.

Joe, give Rocket some beans (or whatever Redditors eat) for me.

I'm really starting to like the way the new health system is shaping up, from all the little snippets and comments that pop up from time to time.

We might even be able to K-O a victim and rob a pint or two before they come round.

Muhahahahaha!

Why are you talking storage? There's nowhere to keep things cold (except the sea, probably. Or up the top of GM-radio tower), so blood will go off pretty quickly.

It might still be ok after 24 hours, but I wouldn't risk it.

This goes hand in hand with the idea of prisoners, handcuffs, and all that kinky stuff.

Capture someone and drain them of their blood to save a buddy.

Yes but you can't dillute to 50% blood. There is a limit on how much or in this case less blood cells can keep the oxygen flowing through the body. If we haden't the problem with blood beeing non replicable we could run one water since it can also carry oxygen.

How to raise Hemoglobin level?

Eat a cow for full blood DayZ style? takes a while...i hope rocket keeps that in mind. You can't donate blood for your whole group. And donors are under observation after they donated blood, the amount is enough to notice side effects.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blood_donation Read under recovery and tiem between donations. Should be common sense, you don't need wiki for that.

When I said I was thinking about blood storage, I meant that I was thinking about the difficulty of storing blood with no electricity. The transfusion kit in the image doesn't store anything. It just directs blood from one person to another. Its plastic, so it might be hard to sterilize repeatedly. I thought it might build and infection % chance every time its reused.

What I meant was in that situation blood-bags would be most useful for transporting blood or preparing for an emergency situation, not necessarily storing for any length of time.

Direct P2P transfusion would be the way to go, I reckon, but that leaves two men out of action instead of just one. (not including the person performing the procedure)

I'm thinking that the entire healing process is going to take longer in the SA. Blood bags work way too fast in the mod as compared to reality. The way things stand, blood bags are basically health potions. I'm hoping for a different direction in the SA.

We have a lot of running blood stores near the coastal towns, they seem to have lots of blood because they like to spill it over there...you just have to knock them down. srsly ... not :rolleyes:

Ah ok lol but still lots has to be thought about if you want to do it right, right?
