WBK 176 Posted June 18, 2013 1.7.7 is the most satisfying version to date IMO. Part of what makes it satisfying is the struggle, the rarity of everything, and a distinct lack of hope when things aren't going your way. It has extreme lows, but also ecstatic highs.I think however that what is universally frustrating about 1.7.7 is that when you start a new character, literally 50% of your success is luck. I've died in early-game scenarios both from stupidity and bad luck. By bad luck, I mean before you get a weapon in DayZ, if you draw one zombie your game is essentially over right there. The margin for error should rightly be low when carrying no weapon. However, there are lots of disadvantages to having no weapon, and no advantages, which is unrealistic. My proposals for parts of the Hotfix relating to zombies and start-game players:Infection rate does not need to be loweredLoot spawns do not need to be raisedPerceived problems with aggro range and inconsistent sound/sight metres don't need changingHOWEVER:Zombie LOS issues need to be resolved.New spawns/low geared chars should be able to run faster and for longer than kitted up players. In other words, new/low geared players should be able to outrun zombies, high geared players would probably need to take them out, or distract them. This doesn't create a huge advantage for new players, but it does make things a little easier knowing that they actually might have an out if caught in a sticky situation. mazeash@mail.com 73 Posted June 18, 2013 Rocket mentioned their considerations towards item weight at E3, there wasn't/isn't any clear yes or no to it, but I think that it could work out well. If you have more stuff on you, you would indeed move slower than fresh spawns. But I can't see it being very 'authentic' if new players simply are faster, there would need to be a reason, weight would fit. To be honest, I think that the difficulty of a new spawn in DayZ is and always has been part of it's appeal, it makes it all the more frustrating when you do die, and means you have to keep your guard up twice fold when you are a fresh spawn. It invokes an emotional response.

Equal danger for everyone. If you can't get somewhere because you don't have the equipment, looks elsewhere and come back when you are ready for the place and hope nobody was there before you. WBK 176 Posted June 18, 2013 I don't think that this would make it too much easier. I'm only referring to the sprint speed, so that they only have a short window to escape, not just always faster than zeds. Plus, I think this would make people a touch more cavalier, which actually makes things harder on themselves because people could easily see or hear a fresh spawn sprinting all over the shop. I'm on my fourth day in 1.7.7, and I don't want it to get any easier. But I'm just proposing alternatives to what might be some serious nerfing due to the outcry from the public. WBK 176 Posted June 18, 2013 Oh I get what everyone was complaining about now. I only used the word new because they have no gear by default. But I'm saying that this would be based on how much gear you have, not how fresh your spawn is. A 200 day old character could run faster than a fresh spawn so long as he was carrying less (however unlikely).
Jars (DayZ) 63 Posted June 18, 2013 I fully agree , you should be able to choose to run lightly equipped , making getting away from zeds easier .Or you can choose to roll with your Coyote backpack full of assault rifles and sniper rifles , and choose not to be able to run away from zeds , or catch lighter geared players on foot .
