Questions about KoS

Recommended Posts

Hey guys my weapon of choice atm is the CZ550. I prefer it to all snipers/DMRs except the SVD camo, mainly because I don't like semi autos (it just feels a bit cheap to me), and they both provide good shot feedback IMO. What I mean by that is, I feel with these two rifles that the bullet lands exactly where I think it should. Also my play style (lone wolf) is of a survivalist, not a bandit. Anyway, that's all beside the point.

What I'm curious about is this: if you see someone with a CZ, do you engage on sight? I know with high end snipers most people will. I've only seen about 10 people with this character and no one (that I'm aware of) has seen me, so I want to gauge whether people react to the quality of a gun or just see a scope and think "AWW HELL NO HE DEAD". I currently wear civ clothing, but will wear camo if I find it (not ghillie).

So this isn't a one question thread, I'll leave it open so everyone can ask their KoS questions as well.

I engage everybody I see unless I know them or have some other type of arrangement setup with them. The type of gun they have generally doesn't matter to me, I engage everybody with a weapon. I will prioritize my targets based on their weapons and the situation though. If they're unarmed I'll break their legs, bandage them and run off laughing. I expect and generally encounter the same treatment from everybody else I come across.

I don't fire unless they engage me first.

I die a lot...

Your gear probably doesn't matter to somebody who always kills on sight. Might set off somebody who want your gear. Personally I only KOS bandit skins. Good move avoiding the ghillie. They do get my trigger finger twitching.

The only time I ever change skins is when I become a hero; the camo looks stupid and the Ghillie makes you look like a bandit.

That's besides the point:

I will KoS any sniper rifle but the CZ, because as DayZ is now, NO ONE needs a sniper rifle for anything but killing players.

The CZ spawns in barns and other places that fresh spawns loot, however, so CZ doesn't (necessarily) scream bandit.

However, I will kill people with CZs if they are outside of my comfort zone. And by that I mean, if I am behind someone, or I've got a better weapon at close range when I meet someone with a CZ, I won't shoot them if they respond in direct chat to my "Hello, I'm friendly." The reason is, I'm fairly confident I can take them on (the CZ is just slow enough I can beat a moderately skilled player who has one). If they're at sniping range, however, you can bet their ass is grass; I don't trust someone at superior range with a ranged weapon.

I attempt not to shoot people who attack me, and it works well for the most part. But to answer your question, a gun is a gun, and should be treated as such, so I'd assume you would be KOS'd. You can kill someone with just about anything, so you've always got to watch.

If you see me and aim it at me, I'll be tempted to defend myself that second, but usually I contact the person through voice and decide how it's going to go from there.

I rarely take the first shot, and never shoot on sight unless it's a bandit in a hotspot.

I think, frankly, the game is much funner when you have to come to a conclusion using voice, position and judge them on skin - rather than just shoot on sight.

KoS is annoying and usually frustrating, so I don't do it to other people.

I've only shot 1 person since the 1.7.7 patch. Most people I encounter are friendly and one time I actually had a bandit come and blood bag me when I was about to die. This patch changes people. Anyway, the guy I did shoot was a hatchet bandit who was charging at me. If I saw CZ survivor I would come around them and ask if they were friendly through voice. Then If the person was friendly we'd go on a merry journey around Chernarus. If the person didn't respond and hasn't seen me I either shoot to knock out/break the legs or I avoid. I don't like to kill people... I'm not one of them.

I do base my actions towards another player based on the weapon they possess. If i see someone with an pistol i will let them keep on their merry way. If i see someone with a shotgun i react the same way as the pistol. Assault rifles i will give them a chance. If i see someone with an LMG or Sniper Rifle i KOS. Now for some people they will not agree with my choice especially hero's. I consider everyone a threat but when the person of interest is one baring a sniper they are a death sentence to myself and others regardless of skin.

A ghillie to me means someone who is trying not to be seen, camo clothing is the same thing but they could not find a ghillie. Bandit skin is a bandit skin and hero skins to me mean they could be a good person or they are a bandit in disguise (changed with the new patch). Back to the point anyone with a sniper rifle in their hands means they arent looking to protect themselves from zombies regardless of the type of sniper. The LMG means that person has massive suppression capabilities/killing power. When someone poses a serious threat to myself or my clan/squad i shut them down before they can get the chance to do the same to myself.

That's why I always keep my CZ in my backpack and an assault rifle of low yield like and ordinary m16 out for zed killing

Makes me look less of a threat and if I'm fired at in the open a couple of rounds from a CZ usually sends someone running as they think they are being fired upon from another position

I usually just blind fire a few rounds from my sniper after I've found cover after running and a lot of times they have turned and run thinking it was someone else

I used to be a hero once but then i noticed it does not matter if you are a hero, bandit or a normal surivor, everyone is just gonna KoS, I really hope people try to behave better on Standalone Version of DayZ. Because as they are goiing to increase Max players on server to 150, its either goign to be a huge deathmatch, seriously normal survivors start the behave better towards heros, Mostly they wont harm you, just gonna help you out and then fly away. On Standalone its so much more important to team up because the Zeds are actually a real threat there, loot is more rare, guns are more rare, ammo is more rare, so people really have to stick together to survive, i myself would higly enjoy protectiing some unarmed friendly guy form Zeds and stuff, that could start a small friendship and maybe lead up to teaming up. On Mod version of DayZ nowadays people are just killing you on sight because they have the feeelign he is going to do it also the first chanse he gets. People you are the key of the Change stop KoS!

I found that not to KOS is much funnier.

Yesterday ran into bandit who was chased by 5 zeds - I saw he stopped to kill me and was knocked down and started to bleed. I killed all 5 zeds who was on him and wandered what will happen now. He rised up saluted and just ran away.

ofc I had a lot of chances to kill him but I did not used this option

Yeah this is the way to go. I've been playing a month and only had 3 kills. Once there was a group of 3 ghillies heading to a crash site I was heading towards. With loot like that, no one wants to share. So I hid behind some trees, fired a warning shot with one rifle - M14 I think it was - to scare them off, but it didn't. I switched to my M16 so it seemed like there was more than one of me, and I headshotted one of them. They learnt their lesson...

The only other time was today, I was trapped in Stary in a stalemate with a heli sporting two gunners and no escape. I killed one, ran off, came back and killed the other. Helis I KoS if I think I have the upper hand, or if I'm in a stalemate like today. Otherwise, I let pretty much everyone go, or do a friendly approach.

I get where you're coming from, and it shits me that some people just snipe other people for laughs, but my play style employs the sniper as a defensive weapon, i.e. I don't want to engage targets close up so I keep my distance, use the sniper to help me keep my distance (whether that's by just scouting or firing warning shots, and only use it lethally when absolutely necessary. TBH I use my sniper more as binoculars than as a gun.

I think I should rephrase. No one walks around the forest on the edge of Cherno/hangs out on rooftops with a sniper rifle. I DO keep a sniper rifle with me whenever I can, in my backpack, with enough ammo to make it useful. I like being able to scope out something before I go to it, and in ArmA, binoculars are SUPER inconvenient for anything.

It's dumb not to take a sniper rifle when you've got backpack room on the basis of, "Sniper rifles aren't good for zombies in this game."

In the SA, however... sniper rifles are going to be useful when there's a finite number of zombies, 'eh?

If you make an easy target, you bear most of the blame yourself.

They get all the blame as far as I am concerned.

People know this game now. They know what to expect. Someone getting shot is NEVER the fault of the shooter that was intending to shoot that person. The blame lies solely on the person who was shot. He made a mistake somewhere and paid the price. Whether it's by a tactical mistake, ignorance, or being naive makes no difference.

basicly if you are seen, expect to be KoS'd. regarrdless of if you have a CZ or any weapon..

the days of player interaction without bullets being exchanged on sight are LONG gone...

shame but the reality, expect it to carry over into SA aswell..

I remember back in the July 2012 when i was still a newb. I had so much interacting with other players, back then i did not even know how to use Voice chat so i got killed alot, as they wree askign friendly and i was trying to find a way to say YES!!! When i was unarmed. Seems like those Days are long gone.
