Achievements and Skins

Recommended Posts

When i read the thread rocket made, about the possibility of scrapping the bandit skin in this thread http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=720 , I thought achievements would be a great option to earn the skin.

Different achievements throughout the game will award you different skins(if there are added more skins of course). Lets say 50 survivor kills = Bandit skin as an example. Then you can make all sort of acheivements and add awards. But all the awards should be vanity items and not equippment like guns, ammo or medical supplies.

The achievements would result in more activity in both pve and pvp.

Some suggestions to what kind of achievements/awards there could be:

50 survivor kills = Bandit skin

1000 zombie kills = New survivor skin

10 bandit kills = New survivor skin

30 headshots on players = Camo skin

Cook 500 meat = A chef's hat ! :D

Repair a car/huey = Mechanic skin

With some sort of menu to choose skin from at login/spawn.

Other ideas i support

-Melee weapons

It should not be very effective, but enough to kill a zombie or two if out of ammo.

-Squads

Should be able to form groups. But the names of those in the group, should only be visable to the players within the group itself.

-Missions

To actually have some sort of objectives while roaming chernarus, would be great fun. :) I know there already been alot of talk about this.

No offense, but I hate it how they try to cram the achievement bullshit down into every game that's made these days. The only achievement this game has is survival lenght, and it should stay this way. Any other bullshit achievements will warp players behavior to non immersive achievement whoring.

What I would like to see though is lootable skins and maybe some more choices for starting skins.

Just no for achievements. If we need skins, they should be lootable.

Well' date=' if you read the patch notes of 1.5.0 and I qoute:

  Quote
M107 TWS removed from spawning (will be achievement/side mission item)

So there will be missions with awards, so why not achievements giving some vanity items like skins?

You say you want more skins to start out with? but you dont want to earn these skins yourself.. ?

I want the game to give some sort of challange, with some objectives I can work towards. When you are being given everything without effort, is just sad and boring.

This would obliterate the aim of the game. Why do people need to be rewarded with achievements nowadays? Simply play the game and have fun.

Achievements make people who like achievements play to get achievements, which is problematic in this context.

Just let people choose skins. Make it low priority though, it's really not a big deal at the end of the day.

I'm cool with melee weapons, I think they need to be rather ineffective though, as you said. The meat of the game should really be in the guns imho.

I don't have any issue with squads. With direct chat working, it wouldn't be necessary though.

Missions are a difficult topic, I don't think that anyone wants to drive towards arrows with someone manning a turret, that's just doing the dishes. Also, I don't get the impression that anyone wants to make that content. Maybe make them completely optional, and give pretty basic loot as a result. Like, do this, get binoculars.

How can I not sound rude about the whole achivements thing...

Go back to your xbox360?

Dont need people to start grinding for stupid achievements. Go play L4D if you want to unlock points.

Pretty sure rocket said somewhere that he was against the idea of putting achievements in the game as it adds a set of rules or goals.

Can reduce emergent gameplay.
