7ommy77 0 Posted June 12, 2013 (edited) Hello to all the DayZ developers and the community, im here to show you something i'd like to see on this game or maybe the Standalone. My idea was about a Radio or a thing that let you communicate with the rest of players that had one of those by the global channel (voice and text).Actually this is on the game but when you just start to play you can do it so it would be great if only a few people can call help, advice somebody about something, and things like that using this method.Maybe this radio could be found in military campsites, schools and things like that and you have to use batteries maybe (also you can use them on the flashlight). You can remove the voice spam too, newbies that want to get angry other people, "singers", and that kind of people.Hope you like my idea about this game, hope you keep updating!Greetings Edited June 12, 2013 by 7ommy77
BwobBwub 660 Posted June 12, 2013 Radios are confirmed. They are to replace side chat.
1999ludo@live.it 4 Posted June 12, 2013 It would be cool yo make some sort of channel system, so only people who know a certain channel (such 153.74) can communicate with you.

Although it will be useless when groups gather in 2rd party voice coms. Would be nice if they would link the game to it like ACRE does, so what you say in TS is broadcasted into the game, too. Funny when you head a kids mom yelling at him :D
CG-Delta 0 Posted June 14, 2013 I came here because I had a similar idea, but to use the radio as a replacement of the 'side chat' would be a waste in my opinion. Like @Enforcer who is referring to ACRE I'd like to see a radio that you open in your inventory and type in a specific channel. I'd say you type in a 4 digit code (10,000 combinations) and then connect after a short time delay. It is important that connecting to a channel takes time, to prevent players scrolling fast through all the channels till they hear sound of people talking, making the radio more or less public while it should be private. The channel code should be exchanged in face to face conversations. So if you want to secretly monitor a group's radio channel, you'd need to overhear a 'direct' conversation or even find the channel code on a note (another suggestion) of a guy you killed. When 'tuned in'; I imagine the the channel as one big open audio pool with push-to-talk for each connected player, and without player ID/names visible anywhere, as identification would be completely verbal. In the same manner, you would never know who else would be listening, or suddenly be talking. There should be no limit of the amount of listeners to a channel or number of current active microphones on the channel. So a bigger group sharing a channel would be a mess without proper radio protocol.Should the radio be stationary while operating it or should you be able to communicate while on the move? For all I care you could implement two different radios; small tactical radio on the move, and a big stationary-operated long ranged, or simply just one radio with additional ear buds to be found externally. This idea can still replace the side chat. You could simply have this unwritten rule, that if you want to talk publicly, use channel '0000'. But there's a problem: If a player is communicating with a group through channel '8467', he'll not be able to hear the (unofficially) public channel '0000' although he wanted to. So should you be able to listen to multiple channels at the same time? I don't know.Communication is very important in a game like this, more than weapons (bias-alert). Hoping for the best down-to-the-ground communication without closed clan channels causing (exterior) anti social behaviour.
liquidcactus 719 Posted June 14, 2013 cant wait to see the radios man.. and i bet they will be how we want them to be, I have absolute faith in that.. I think most of the ideas you guys are talking about should (for the most part) and will be in it
Legoroxby 28 Posted June 29, 2013 i like the idea of radios being found in cars and/or heli's. they could be removed from the car and take up 2 or 3 slots
ibux (DayZ) 22 Posted June 29, 2013 I think the radio is just for radio stations, and that there will be walkie talkies for communication.
enforcer1975 1111 Posted June 30, 2013 Did they say something about the radio having a range? Chernarus beeing all hill and stuff should be blocking a lot of comms if you are not on the right spot and of course the average portable radio doesn't have 10km range. ACRE has this neat feature. I had to relay messages once in a game when i was just between two player groups on a hill and i intercepted their transmissions trying to reach eachother, it was quite fun. TacticalN29 89 Posted June 30, 2013 Rocket said at Rezzed that the range of the walkie-talkie/radio (for talking to other players) will be 1km. This is for the SA radio.
enforcer1975 1111 Posted June 30, 2013 1km is a bit meager, but still enough to yell "I'm friendly!" to another player with a scoped rifle before he shoots you anyway.
