famishedmammal 3 Posted June 7, 2013 (edited) The default clothing, I think, should be an orange prison jumpsuit. If you see someone in one of these jumpsuits, you'd say "oh - that guy's new", and it gives new players a legit reason to find new, more camouflaged clothing.[Edit]There was a prison-island just off of Chernarus filled with convicts who had life-long sentences. Knowing that they would be unable to communicate with the outside world, the Russian government used them as test-rats and experimented on the inmates with the first version of the zombie virus (perhaps as part of a biological weapons program to destroy the US or something). The first version of the zombie virus was unsuccessful on the inmates, and had no visible symptoms at all. The inmates, instead, developed a resistance to the virus and could not be experimented on any further. Some time later, the second version of the virus (which was biologically similar to the first version) was released into the general populous accidentally (or maybe purposefully tested on a small town of "nobodies"?). The second version was very much successful.Eventually, when the virus was widespread and most of the prison guards/maintenance crew were dead, a religious prison guard named Thomas Thatcher believed it would be morally wrong to allow the thousands of inmates to die of starvation in their cells, and he released the inmates, allowing them to go free. You could have an awesome intro to the standalone game, actually. Jordan* 277 Posted June 7, 2013 wot.....You always want to find better clothing.... fresh spawn or not.All this would do is make the standard survivor skin different. What good does that do? And why would every single person in the game be a fugitive?
dallas 5195 Posted June 7, 2013 Would explain how you found yourself at the beach, escaped convicts from the Chernarus+ prison island :)
simfreek@hotmail.com 48 Posted June 7, 2013 So... only prisoners are those immune to the virus. Great, now every one has the same starting story each time we make a story. "After escaping supermax... the reason for me being there was...

famishedmammal 3 Posted June 7, 2013 (edited) And there you have the backstory ...There was a prison-island just off of Chernarus filled with convicts who had life-long sentences. Jordan* 277 Posted June 7, 2013 That could be a good thing in its own game. But not DayZ.My interpretation of DayZ is to craft your own life, your own back story, and make the kind of person you want. I think that is what the DayZ devs wanted and want still. I do not think DayZ is the type of game in which to make you stick to this back story. You should make your own.
famishedmammal 3 Posted June 7, 2013 In fact, here's something very similar ... an IamLegend alternative storyline
Mullraugh 1151 Posted June 8, 2013 Forcing players to be a criminal will lose some people. Also, Russia doesn't have the best prisons in the world. You wouldn't have an orange jumpsuit, and you'd spawn with tuberculosis or some other disease.
