The number one issue my friends talk about is how the game has turned into kill on sight.

Recommended Posts

I don't care if dumb COD players are to blame or if it's because people have learnt the game and have no reason to make friends now. The main problem really is game design and how it just gives you no reason to not fire at someone you see because they might fire at you. The only people you tend not to kill is your friends, there is no social aspect any more really, 1 in every 10 people I meet are friendly and usually it's because they aren't geared.

I personally think mechanics like name plates so you can get to know who is friendly and who isn't or even having an icon appear or several different stages of bandit skins, to show you how likely they're to fire at you. Maybe even killing hero skins or friendly players means they drop no loot..... I dunno but something has to be done to stop kill on sight. You'll always get people who want to kill everyone, that is fine, however it's gotten to the point now where 90% of the people are doing so and it just isn't fun. You get no sense of community now and it is just boring, if I wanted COD I would go and play it..... now Dayz has just turned into crap and it's because it isn't doing anything to promote not shooting on sight.

I love PVP as much as the next guy, I don't cry if I get killed, death in this game has become so irrelevant, it's very easy to just get geared up again, just involves getting a lee and taking out a noob camper in one of the main cities. However it is just boring when it is always shoot on sight, I want those experiences the game used to give where you'd meet random people and team up, there is none of that now.

You say "turned into" as if it was never supposed to happen before.

As far as I'm concerned, there are plenty of ways to deal with a potential KoSer without killing, and saying that "In a REAL Zombie apocalypse, people wouldn't KoS!" is stupid because 1. There's no such thing as a 'Real' Zombie apocalypse, and 2. Even if there were, you've never been in one, so how would you know?

There were bandits in the beginning, and don't claim there weren't. They were there, though more numerous as of now. I don't like them as much as next guy, but using cheap game mechanics to "curb" PvP(I doubt it would help) is just making the game worse. I'd rather leave it to people who are smarter than me as I'd rather not bother with it. I'd much rather have a lovely romp through the Cheranrussian country side. I heard Pusta is nice.

I ve recently realized that the only way to play this game as it is supposed to, how I like to play it, is to just go on empty servers and kill zombies, cause whenever you meet someone, hes just gonna shoot you anyway. But then, it gets boring, and there is no solution for that. Its just really sad hows everyone playing like cod kiddie, but I think its just cause the community is builded by them. At the start the players were Arma II users, chill guys that understood whats the best about this game, but then it came out in public and it got cod kiddies etc. attention, that are used to kill everyone they see and since there is so many of them, it just went full retard. The original dayz players are still there, in the corner hidden in a shadow, waiting for the light to come out and give them hope that this game will became senseful once again.

Just embrace the role of hero man. I find that to be the real "game" in dayz anyway. I've killed players and it's exciting but no more exciting than any other PVP game. That being said. Playing the hero and responding to some unknown persons call for help has provided me with some of the most exciting in game moments of my life. It's even better when you get to kill of a few opportunistic bandits that show up while you're helping out. I love that feeling of looking at the player list prior to log-in and thinking, I've helped almost all of these people out. Now that's security. When I was playing a lot, regulars on our server would hunt down people that had killed me.

This is probably the most discussed topic on the forums. Just sayin.

You are right Fraggle, but it usually happens much earlier than 113 posts in a forum users posting life. A lot of people just don't get that it all comes down to what the game allows people to do. Games that allow people to be assholes will always draw more assholes than not. If more people playing like that style, and rocket likes that style people need to get over it. I think my first couple posts were coming here crying about the same sorts of things. I spent half my time play Dayz and half playing COD and still got butthurt when I was just trying to enjoy the survival aspect and some guy would just kill me for no reason. I don't even have a clue as to why I thought that wouldn't happen. I just enjoyed surviving and didn't like being drawn into the pvp.

Now though? I kill everything that moves. Sometimes my friends even get shot when I get a little excited. Now I even go into Elektro with nothing but an enfield and a pack full of ammo, bandages and morphine looking for a fight. What changed for me was finally realizing that this wasn't an MMO. Gear is nothing. It took me two months to finally get all of my gear that I wanted my first time in the game. Now I know where to go and can get most of what I want in a couple hours. Dying means absolutely nothing to me in a negative sense and everything in a positive sense. Dying is now something I try to do. There is no challenge to this game against zombies if you are completely geared out. I try to take on every zombie I can with a pistol, run like an idiot through a town and THEN try to survive.

Had to edit because I saw Gonzo's post. That guy is the best. I have personally killed off an entire bandit clan because they were harrassing him. One guy and I wiped the biggest group of bandits off the server. Man up, play the game how you want but always keep in mind that thousands of others who may not think the same way as you are doing the same.

Your ideas seem impractical, and unrealistic. Just becasue people want to shoot on sight, doesn't make it CoD. If you want to be friendly, put yourself in control of the situation, don't run at someone screaming "Friendly." because 9/10 times that's going to get your ass shot.

As for not crying about getting killed, the way your post it worded, and suggesting things like killing hero's yields no loot, really looks like you're crying about getting killed.

I do find it amusing that people will complain that the mod is boring/frustrating or lacks end game, usually after they've played it for 800 hours or so. ANY game will get boring after a certain amount of time.

Agreed

I used to play on a nice server where people were mostly friendly and there was usually always 1-3 bandits online. The ratio was something like 14 friendly for 3 bandits. Now lets me explain you why it was the best server I ever played and my best experience on Dayz.

The bandits were nice and mature, they were not using side chat to lure friendly player with lies and promises, they were not afraid to letting know their intentions, they were hostile and everyone know it. We all had a really nice time with them, I got kill many time, they stole my camp and cars many time and sometime they even spare me when I comply to their conditions (like dropping everything and run ‘naked’ in the other direction, they were hided somewhere ready to snipe me). It’s nice to play with bandits when they play to game and when they understand the difference between their character and themselves.

Guess what happen 4 weeks later? The admins installed an update and we were stormed by 15-20 more players, we were always 17-24 and after that it was more like 27-38. From this point, the community was horrible, everyone was shot on sight on the beach, everyone used their first clip and first pistol to shoot blindly at other players, each kill was followed by a ‘lol’ or ‘u mad?’ on the side chat, etc. I have stayed a bit, but after 1-2 weeks the server was down to 14-16 players but none of them were my old friendly or bandits pals, only kiddy thinking that they were playing a multiplayer game on duke Nukem Forerer. RIP good old dayz.

I think that the solution may be a little ‘aura’, if you are pointing your gun one someone, a little subtle red/yellow/green glow is visible. If green: this person never killed anyone, maybe only to defend is self. If yellow, this person have killed some players. If red, this person have killed a lot of players. So if you meet a green one, you can rob him without killing him if you are a bandit, or play with him without being afraid of being shoot. If yellow, you take a risk, bandit or not, be careful. If red, bandit or not, you best option is to shot on sight, this player is a bloody murderer.

In my opinion, we need something like that to ‘capture’ the feeling of the real Dayz since by now everyone is messing around COD style. And people like me, tired of being killed, also KOS in precaution.

Torture...you don't have to kill em, but if they annoy you make them walk through a field of satchel charges at night with no night goggles.

The reason there is few friendlies is because once you have played for a while you don't need others to survive

In game modes where there was a common enemy such as strongerr zombies that kill you quickly there were far more genuine calls for help and I would easily get a hero skin within a couple of hours of playing

The bandits were there and like the other guy said we had a community going for a while until a hacker ruined the admins faith in the game ( somehow added 23000 aircraft carriers that could not be removed even with server restarts and database wipe) and he shut down the server

While most other players didn't trust each other I did see a lot more banding together when the bandits were online and the bandits gave up when people including myself began hunting them because they liked picking off lone survivors but groups easily overwhelmed them

Not what I wanted, the bandits should have stayed, but I've seen plenty of proof that a tougher common threat like deadly zombies makes a few more people were realising there was more to the game then mindless killing

Killin people gets old, it's the same as every other game, while I'm perfecting capable of killing players, I choose not to because there is no tension when you already know that every player is going to kill you, the tension is only there when you don't know of they will or not

A random encounter does not have to be a kill or be killed situation. True there are players who don't care and will kill no matter. They are the sociopaths. Can't do anything about them except hope you can get the drop on them.

Many will kill out of fear. There are ways to deal with these types. be creative, be tactical, think about why they will shoot first. Give them a reason not to shoot. Let it be known there is more value in life than death.

Met a bambi bleeding out after falling off the barn 2nd floor. He had everything wrong with him minus the infection.

I'm pretty sure he was new because he just turned around and stared at me for like a minute and I fixed him up. It is really fun when you save people like that and it doesn't happen often. Suprisingly after that another bambi ran in and was asking what was going on. He didn't have a gun or a backpack for whatever reason.. We looted the place then headed to Cherno. I didn't give him my Skype or TS because I really don't team up regulary much.

Anyway, he ran into the big construction building even though there was a bandit with a sniper rifle nearby...that was my first mistake. I heard shots coming out of the building so I ran in and saw him being chased by a determined hatchet bandit. I watched as my friend got cut down like an animal.. so I put down the bandit like an animal. This game is really fun when you don't play by the normal rules... ie shooting everyone on sight.

I rarely shoot on sight, ofcourse there are exception. If your a bandit, regardless to why or how or what your intention are i will aim to kill. If you are a survivor or hero I will generally be quite friendly.

In a way I don't hate the shoot on sigh mechanics. Its the thrill of knowing that theres a 90% that the man behind the bush is going to try to fill you with lead and thats what makes being a hero fun. To judge the people you encounter. To approach carefully. Do not dumb the game dumb to a greater extent because people are tired of getting shot.

And yes if the noob with the lee is able to kill a well armed man in the starting cities then that man doesn't deserve to have his gear in the first place and secondly the reasons he is at spawn is to kill newspawns so I have no remorse

Keep it like this, the danger is what makes this game so fun.

DayZ has been roughly 90-95% bandits since maybe May or June of last year, I'm not sure why you're bringing it up like it's something new. I'd like to see more advantages to teaming up with the random people that you encounter as opposed to things to discourage KoS though.

I can pretty much guarantee you it will be the same in the standalone.

The only way to prevent a large amount of shooting-on-sight incidents is to force players to work together, which is exactly what the devs don't want to do.

Pusta.

The very first town I looted. I remember like it was yesterday.

It was about 5 oclock in the evening. I found a revolver and a czech backpack and I thought I was a high roller. Made it all the way Novy Sobor before running about of bandaids. Died in a field, firing my AKM to make sure no one could use my 1337 weapon. It was getting dark.

KoS, the reason why PvP servers are so popular.

I mean, who wants to spend an hour gathering supplies and getting yourself comfortable when you get shot in the back by some freshy with an enfield?

Sure, to begin with, it was fun regearing when you were killed, but its getting old now.
