Is ArmA II free?

Recommended Posts

Arma 2 isn't free, but there is a free version with restricted graphics quality. It looks pretty bad. But it's free and then all you need is the OA expansion for day z to work.

I recommend just grabbing the copy from Steam - $19.99 for ARMA II, or $29.99 for the pack including Operation Arrowhead. :)

I agree.

And Arma2 is a great game to play, with lots of addons and a big community. I bought Arma2 CO on steam, never looked back since.

Unless there is some sort of steam offer on, you will probably find that the retail version of Arma X is cheaper than buying it from steam.

For clarity. Arma 2 has a free version, but you still need to buy Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead to play DayZ. That's still $20 right now. Or you can pay $30 for Combined Operations which gives you both, meaning you get the extra features of the original Arma 2.

Releasing this free version was a bad move then IMO.

I was interested in ArmA II, so I downloaded the Free version to see how good it was, and I thought either it was very extremely poorly optimized or its graphics were crap.

Needless to say it dissuaded me to buy the regular one for a long time before Day Z came around.
