Beck (DayZ) 1768 Posted May 30, 2013 If we can't host our own:...If we can host our own:How will they work? What features will they have? How will they change the gameplay from server to server (if any)? What opportunities will owners of the server have (if any) to counter hackers and other server related issues?I'm not sure if this has been discussed yet, but I tried to search on the forums and couldn't find anything. GOD™ 2795 Posted May 30, 2013 I'm not really hoping for servers being hosted by the community due to the sad amount of abusive admins.

PK Richie 507 Posted May 30, 2013 I think the SA should go with the standard Arma hosting, let the community do the hosting :) It's what most people want and will save BIS money on hardware/bandwidth costs.Places like Europe and the US have cheap prices for servers but what about Australia and other expensive countries for hosting ? It will drive the price of the game up or they don't sell it over there. It'll be intresting to see what happens, If people are paying money for a multi-player only game there will have to be a load of servers to cope with demand and all in the right countries for latency. Beck (DayZ) 1768 Posted May 30, 2013 (edited) I think if they can control the hackers on the game then they should go with the original hive mentality. Admins have no abilities and can only ban with hard evidence. Edited May 30, 2013 by Beck
Dancing.Russian.Man 1631 Posted May 30, 2013 (edited) The servers will be hosted by BIS to start with. (From what I've understood.)The servers will end up becoming hosted by the players themselves. Because the engine is now designed to work through the server and very little on the client-side, Bohemia will have most of the control. The servers will definitely not be as customizable as they are now(Unless they are utter morons. And I will stand to this opinion if that was to happen.), with people having 300+ vehicles and assault rifles as starting gear.Private servers will most likely become a thing, but what I'm hoping is that it only means that the server is not connected to the official hive, but will remain more or less strict on what the server host can change. (To not encourage people from simply making private servers to play with end-game gear and/or have a "PvP" server.) leviski 2152 Posted May 30, 2013 If servers do get a "rent" option I hope the DayZ peoples (bohemia) rents servers to their communityAnd if soI hope BB gets some servers Because Fack playing on abusive servers
iashford 73 Posted May 30, 2013 Well, to be fair, how many MMO's officially allow you to host your own servers? I don't really care either way
Dancing.Russian.Man 1631 Posted May 30, 2013 (edited) Well, to be fair, how many MMO's officially allow you to host your own servers?I don't really care either wayThe nature of DayZ is still different to other MMOs, despite being an MMO.Edit; And honestly I have a pretty hard time classifying DayZ as one. It's not an MMO when you have 30-80 people on a server. Mount&Blade: Warband has a 120-200 player cap per server, and it's not an MMO.
