I bought Arma 2 and Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead through Steam and I'm running Build 103419 (According to DayZ Commander). I use DayZ Commander to start up a game whenever I play DayZ.

The problem I'm having is really low FPS in DayZ. I just played on a server with 15 people and was getting 15-20 FPS in an open field and sometimes it even dipped to below 10. I'm not running the game on high settings either. I've tried almost everything to optimize the game where I can decently play and it hasn't worked. I even used the program "GeForce Experience" from nVidia to optimize Arma 2 for it's best settings with my graphics card and my FPS was still low.

I've got a decent PC, specs are below.

AMD Phenom II X4 965 Processor (4 CPU's) ~3.4 GHz

8 Gigabytes of Ram

nVidia GeForce GTX 560

64-bit Windows Operating System

Not sure what else I can give to you to help me. I know Arma 2 is a pretty CPU intensive game, but I would thing my CPU could handle it. If anyone who could help me needs more information about my PC or anything else I'd be happy to provide it. Anything that could help me get better FPS.

Make sure nothing else is dragging down on your CPU. What's the CPU usage while you're ingame? Have you optimized your game?(http://www.dayzpvp.com/ultimate-dayz-graphics-settings-and-tweaks-guide/). While checking the CPU usage, check the temperature too.(http://www.techpowerup.com/realtemp/).

Also, be very certain that dust isn't clogging up inside your case.

Could also be the server with low fps that drags down everyone...from my experience a player with a faster rig notices every single performance hit better that one with a lower spec rig. Have you tried a couple of servers just to be sure? If that's not the case then it can be the beta patch. I noticed my rig having lower fps, too since i updated the beta patch ( can't remember from which point on though ) primarily in Cherno and Elektro. After tweaking a bit i got up to 10fps more so i barely scratch 30+ in the "big towns". But it still feels as if i had 20fps. Or your settings are just way too high for your rig. Just for comparison, i don't know how you cpu compares to an i7, just some basic info on what system i get the 30+ fps: i7 2600K 3,4GHz - 8 GB RAM - GTX 580 - Win 7 64 BIt

Ok, i was having the same problems as you, but your rig is faster than mine and i run it on high settings all round, im not quite sure why yours would lag more than mine because your rig is a bit faster, dayz is a shitty optimised mod im sure youv'e heard that alot. But even on wasteland arma 2 and takistan life it lags xD, i have no clue at all why it lags so much even on arma 2. Offline for me i run at a great fps on campaign and editor with maxed settings but when it come to playing certain game types on arma it just lags, and im sure you have the same problem, same goes for DayZ. Frankly, there is ways to fix it such as Radeon RAMDisk (type it in oshi7 did a tutorial on how to max fps with ramdisk) the cfg tweaks didnt work for me, it made it even laggier! so try the .cfg file tweaks at your own risk (make a backup) But, just recently for me my fps lightened up and got better for some reason which could happen to you, try launching through steam, try different servers (try a normal bare bone vanilla server with no custom buildings or npc's) that might help. But not alot of these work to be brutally honest. But standalone is out soon(june july is what most people are saying), perhaps try the tweaks until standalone comes out

Your machine looks fine!

I'd blame it on the server (there are a lot of shitty servers out there) or you got the wrong video settings in game.

You should post them...

Alright, I'm pretty sure it was the server. I just logged onto one of those official servers and was getting 35-45 FPS in a small town and 40-55 in open fields. The server only had 5 people but even with more I think I could get good FPS. In reply to Fion though, I do have bad cable management and only 1 fan (other than the power supply and CPU fan) running in my computer. So I have bad airflow and my CPU actually gets pretty hot while playing DayZ for more than 30 minutes. I have to buy a new power supply because mine couldn't support my graphics card and 2 fans. I'm also cleaning it out tomorrow so I get all that nasty dusty and stuff out. The link you gave me on optimizing DayZ helped out a lot too.

Thanks for the help everyone!

Yep, ArmA 2 Runs like a charm, i can average around 70fps fine. But oh no, arma 2 OA just f*cks that up. I have no clue why but listen to this, right now zombies have aroun 240-270 polygons, which can cause tons of lag and loading time lag which puts pressure on the cpu to load all of these polygons, this is why turning down the settings doesn't help because it doesn't change the amount of polygons in buildings, loot, zombies. But i found out that In standalone, the polygon count will be lowered to about 70-140 polygons which makes it so it wont lag as much, but if DayZ standalone is going to run like ArmA 3, that will be extremely bad, since ArmA 3 right now runs very very badly. But we can only hope, ive heard that the alpha will be released next month in june

Hey,

just found this thread. My rig isn't much better than the OP's and i don't have that difference in FPS compared to ArmA, if any difference at all. So there must be something else.

Check the thread in my sig, we may find the issue.
