ok so i went here got the files and i have no idea what to do with them..... many thanks

Those install guides linked above are really outdated. I'd just use DayZCommander to manage your DayZ installation once you have ArmA and OA installed.

1. Install ArmA and Operation Arrowhead, run them both once to complete installation.

2. Download DayZCommander from http://www.dayzcommander.com

3. Run DayZCommander and click the "install/update" button from the top menu.

4. Click "Install" next to ArmA 2. Wait for the download and install to complete.

5. Click "Install" next to DayZ. Wait for the download and install to complete. (You can choose what version you want from the dropdown box)

6. Press "Done" to close the versions panel.

7. Filter "DayZ only" from the dropdown box on the left and join a server, if you want to play other mods/maps you will need to install them separately via the install/update menu.

If you want to install it manually though you need to extract it to your OA folder, in my case C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Arma 2 Operation Arrowhead\@Dayz
