Skipping the Arma 2 download process on Steam.

I'm buying my brother arma 2 combined ops today, but I don't want him to have to download the full game from steam, as that will take ages on my slow internet connection. I was wondering if there is any way of transferring my files over to his computer, so that he can use them (we do have a portable harddrive, so getting the files onto his computer isn't a problem).

I have thought of one way this could work.

start downloading the files from steam, pausing the download, then deleting the downloaded files and putting my already completed files onto his steam folder, then starting the download again.

but I'm afraid that if I do this, then will the game still have my cd key attached? I don't want us trying to connect to the same server as me only to find that my cd key gets banned or something.

I'm aware you can manually change the cd key, which I don't mind finding out how to do, but when buying the game on steam I don't know how you can see what your cd key is.

So my question is: how can I port my arma 2: CO over to my brothers computer with it updating to his newly bought cd key?

I belive this is possible.

Just copy your Arma2 and Arma2 OA folders to your brothers Steam folder. Then start the download. Steam takes care about already excisting files.

The Key is in most games saved in the registry or userfiles(appdata).

Your key has nothing to do with the game files within the Steam folder.

And Jataai, as long as you place the files in .\Steam\Steamapps\Common\Arma 2 Operation Arrowhead\, it will work just fine.

It should work. If you dont have steam registered on your steam account it should simply not work, but if it's legit, I dont see why it should not work.

I beg to differ. It took me much longer to download ArmA 2: CO and my Internet works just fine.

this dude is talking out of his ass, It takes me half a day to download dayz and it plays fine wiht pings of 30 or 40

It takes me a few hours to DL the game, but i regularly play on <10 ping servers. No issue whatsoever.

Your connection will affect your ping etc but most people should be fine on most connections.
