Masterchief (DayZ) 1 Posted May 26, 2013 In the last 2 weeks, I probably spent 99% of my game time finding and repairing vehicles. I usually get a ground vehicle then I use that vehicle to get parts and find a heli. I always manage to do that, I then hide them in remote locations at some distance from each other. After server restarts there seems to be always a chance of them disappearing for no reason. I play in official servers btw. My last one I had an uaz, v3s, a little bird and two tents, they where all separate in a 1km radius in deep woods far from any city. After a restart they where all gone, tents included. This as happened me in 3 diferent servers. So whats the point in spending hours getting and repairing vehicles if they randomly disappear? Its frustrating as hell. PK Richie 507 Posted May 26, 2013 Each server is different, My old server we would never move anyones vehicles, if players found them then that's fair enough but some had never moved in weeks. Some Admin tools have set commands for vehicles, TSW has an option to remove and respawn any vehicle not touched in 3 days, some will remove vehicles parked off the map. Some are just glitched or they are saved somewhere else, the database updates every few minutes so if the server restarts without the DB updating it will be in its last saved point. Masterchief (DayZ) 1 Posted May 26, 2013 I think its a database problem, because sometimes only one vehicle disappears, other times they all gone, and even if admins moved them I doubt they would destroy the tents too, and im almost sure in official servers admins don't have that much power. bfisher 561 Posted May 26, 2013 I would argue that there is no point. On official servers, you need to spend hours criss-crossing the map to first find a vehicle, then get all the parts to fix it. But once you have it, they are so rare and in demand and draw so much attention that you need to hide them in some far-flung corner of the map. They would have more of a point if the map were bigger or if it were much more dangerous traveling out in the open. Personally I prefer the custom maps with hundreds of vehicles. I don't think abandoned cars would be that rare after a zombie apocalypse. Plus I don't think wandering around for hours scrounging for parts is particularly fun. Masterchief (DayZ) 1 Posted May 26, 2013 Yeah its a load of work, but it would be worth it if the damn vehicles didn't disappear, you would have a big edge over others and you didn't had to start from scratch if you died.
taco241 393 Posted May 26, 2013 This is what I currently dislike about the server system.Nothing is consistent.Admins are running all kinds of mods, and you never know if a server has been abandoned or not restarted for ages.Frustrating. I tend to stick to 2 good private hives I'm familiar with.I suggest you look for a better server too.
gambla 118 Posted May 26, 2013 That's just one reason i play Origins now. It's not that they have a better database or servers, but you have just a better chance toget your vehicles done. And houses usually don't disappear. GIve it a try...
Saethkept 134 Posted May 26, 2013 (edited) I think that fixing and fueling up vehicles is still worth it and always has been. Where vehicles are concerned in DayZ, every aspect related to and governing them is very fluid. Think of the chain of vehicle possession as a variably short/long cycle that can run based on completely random events, or not at all. Someone finds a car, a Skoda for example. That player repairs it enough to drive, throws some fuel in the tank. He then dies. Someone else finds our Skoda, beats the heck out of it and then leaves on the side of the road after it breaks down. You log in, you find the Skoda. You take the time to repair it to cherry, fuel it, use it and then lovingly hide it on the edge of the map. The cycle has begun. You then log in the next day. Either someone else is driving your beloved Skoda, or it is simply gone. Cycle complete.Playing, enjoying and surviving DayZ is all about variables. Everything is wickedly fluid and changeable. Strategy, experience, tips and reading guides can help you to understand and plan for the variance of the many fluid variables, but in the end - nothing you have amassed will permanently belong to you. Glitches, admin intervention, bugs, other players - all combine to create the Bermuda Triangle of PC Gaming.By the way, make sure you don't park your vehicles on the edge of the map. Meeshe 170 Posted May 26, 2013 You spend hours fixing up vehicles so some jackass can come along, snipe you and steal it. DUH! Dumb question. Sorry, I had too, :DSeriously though, I still get such a kick out of running over Zeds, thats one of the main reasons I do it. I'm a man of simple tastes. :(
Tr1x 53 Posted May 26, 2013 some high pop servers have scripts where the vehicles positions randomize on restarts, so if a hacker decides to do a vehicle magnet on the map and suck all the vehicles to a certain position, they don't just stay there forever
Masterchief (DayZ) 1 Posted May 26, 2013 I don't have any problems with ppl stealing the vehicles or killing me in them lol, that's part of the game, what shouldn't be part is them disappearing randomly, I talked to an admin of the servers I go to, and he doesn't touch vehicles, its the database that's glitched, its an alpha I get it, but its been out for a year now. I know in private servers there are more vehicles, but I tried about 10 diferent ones and even the more hardcore ones (the ones that dont have a gazillion vehicles or you spawn fully geared...) have stuff like donation bonuses, admin bases, ppl don't value their gear, etc, for that I go and play BF4. God Dan 62 Posted May 26, 2013 I think it is more about the fun you and your buddies have with it rather than saving for later. Stashing vehicles never works anyway just get used to it
