Iron Sights Alignment?

Recommended Posts

Hi, I just had a brain wave and wanted to share it as a suggestion for Standalone. So I recently went shooting and realised how hard it is to line up the backsight with the aiming bead, it doesn't just click into place when you raise your weapon. Every time your hand slightly moves the sights come out of line and your gun is facing the wrong direction, every breath you take, every time you sway the slightest un-aligns the backsight and you completely miss the target. I don't know much about programming so this may be hard to implement into the game. I was thinking that when you have the iron sights up your mouse moves your back hand and maybe holding down a button and moving the mouse you could rotate your body, this also happens with scopes, though less. When looking through a scope at the wrong angle or too close or far from it, you see a black blur around the edges. Its very hard to explain. I think that you should go shooting just to see how difficult it is to aim straight, especially while standing. Another thing I would like implemented is the FOV around scopes, this has definitely been talked about but from experience I know that your eye is not pressed into the scope so you can see a blurred outline of what is happening around you, thanks for the 5 minutes you used of your life to think about this and please consider it seriously. Why the hell are you using your backsight? You are supposed to focus on the front sight. I think this is an interesting idea, but it'll be a bigger pain in the ass than anything; it'll be an implied part of "Fixing" your gun and maintaining them.

This is probably the biggest problem, unfortunately.

Also that's why I prefer aperture sights.

No, first of all you line the bead up with the backsight and secondly, I though this was meant to be slightly realistic, it adds a challenge in aiming

Aperture sights are only good for up to about 100m because you have to have the bead exactly in the centre of the ring, and humans aren't perfect, that's the other problem with the auto-aiming fps'

Ideally there would be more challenge to aiming, but unfortunately I don't think it's possible to implement with the current design.

Aperture sights can be used out to 1,000 yards or more... your brain tends to automatically center it. It also depends on the size of the aperture.

so what about the lee? it has such a big area you could possibly be aiming

Like I said your brain will help automatically center the front sight. Also the Lee has two sights (not in-game).

The "battle sight"

And a more precise sight that goes all the way out to 1,300 yards

The "aiming views" are like that because unlike in Red Orchestra the scopes are not modelled with PiP so it's an overlay that has nothing to do with the gun. You can see that when using a GPS and use a scope, the GPS disappears. Same applies to tank sights etc.
