Cars should break not explode

Recommended Posts

It really is one of the design decisions BI made in Arma 2 I never understood. There are numerous TV shows out there that tested how and when gasoline would explode. And shooting with any caliber under 50 won't do it, not even tracers. The only way a car could really burn out would be if there was a gas leak in the engine compartment, or if you where driving on shot out tires with sparks flying everywhere. I don't like getting killed in a burning car because I accidentally drove over a rock or into a street light. I think it is a simple fix for dayz to only allow vehicles to burn out if the engine was critically hit in a lucky place while it was running. In any other cases such as when the hull would get busted the car should just break down without any flames.

Lol has anyone ever DC'd while driving, only to come back and see your teammates unconscious and strewn about the road.

AGREED!

The explosion stuff is so Hollywood. Crashes should result in broken vehicles, injury, and death - but not explosions.

I dare not drive a car with less than 80% engine for fear of explosion. This has got to stop in SA, but it's something we've all learned to live with.

Since the SA will use major parts of the TOH engine does anyone know if the vehicle damage is different in that game? I heard they will use the flight model from TOH engine, maybe the driving physics/damage are different too?

They are completely redoing vehicles for the standalone, hopefully this includes them not exploding for no good reason.

I'd say only grenades or other explosives should do the trick. But do you remember back in the day GTA san andreas had a feature that if you hit the gas fill cap on a car it would explode. Maybe they should do something along those lines. Like if you hit the engine block at the carburetor it would start a fire that eventually could blow up the car or set it fully ablaze.

:D I have to admit ive shot at the petrol caps of vehicles in games ever since, just in case.

There should still be instances where wrecks catch fire and explode, but yeah, twisted hulks of metal seem better for an average crash.

I do remember the phrase "GTA-esque damage visuals" being used once or twice in the devblogs.
