I have been thinking about how cool it would be if there was weather seasons on Dayz, im not sure if it would be done in real time but maybe over a 4 month period. This will change the dynamics of survival. i.e having to store warm clothing/camo for the winter months. they would then become useless in the summer. also weapon camos etc. needs to build housing. just an idea but what do you think?

already been discussed as something they may think about in the standalone, heard a Q and A with Matt where he said they may consider it

I think what it came down to was, it's a LOT of work to create a winter-style version of a map (snow-drifts, frozen lakes, frosted windows, snow in trees etc.) and it would most likely be something done for a NEW map, when the time comes.

That's a long way down the line.

Q: Will there be seasons within the game and expanded weather, snow and functional clothing?

A: In order for us to do seasons properly we would have to create a new map, which we would love to do but it's a lot of work and how we do that, we did discuss at one point about possible DLC to fund quick development of maps or put it on a slow burner where it could take six months, it's really a balancing act of the cost and what else we can do with those resources.

should hold the northern norway part season times then :D

We got 2 weeks of 24/7 night in the winter and on the summers we got something called midnight sun that lasts for about 1-2 weeks.

quite strange sitting outside at 0300 in the night having a cigarette while the sun is up :)

We kind of already have seasons: Chernarus would probably be fall, Lingor summer, Namalsk winter, and Panthera/Taviana spring. So we already have several maps spread across different enviroments.

Do you really think you can survive a season?

It'd be less about surviving through seasons, more about seeing how your priorities shift and resources change in availability even though you're in the same place.

EDIT:

If they do SA right, we'll struggling to survive at all. :P

Still, It'd be nice to constantly have something to prepare for, even if you're not likely to last that long.

temperature variation linked to season is very easy doable. The difficult one would be changing the environment and textures to match the season. It would require separate textures for all objects which is a lot of work. But I still stand by my opinion that the time and seasons in dayz should run in parallel to real life. Shortened day night cycles absolutely ruin the immersion for me. I really like the idea of having seasons and I hope they will look into it ones the alpha comes out. I think it would make for a meaningful addition to the game

Having seasons would certainly be good idea and nice chance of atmosphere.

However the seasons should focus on aspects of survival, such as what characters are wearing to remain warm and added challenges

of the new enviroment, such as rarity of animal life and dangers of blizzards and thin ice. Hypothermia and starvation are real

dangers of colder seasons.
