I'm a Part-Time Bambi Bandit and I Need Pointers

Recommended Posts

Last night I turned to the dark(er) side of DayZ by delving into banditry. I wasn't actually intending to pick a "faction" but sometimes the fates (ahem) pick for you!

So after having a black-sack (beam me up scottie) thrown over my head, I found myself in a quite nicely outfitted bandit base located just &@*= of £$¢=% and with a "band" (is that the correct group moniker?) of bandits who include, @#!+ and $%(+& and also *=/*$. Who, after hazing me with a live chicken (it was shameful) proceeded to their evening's mission which included some market raiding, and a dramatic helicopter kamikazee smash.

I'm not exactly the most adept bandit, and the AS50 on my back would be more effective as a baseball bat than a deadly killing sniper device in my incapable hands, but we'll see how things play out. With some more practice, I might even learn how to get in to a vehicle in under 5 minutes!

beatSTV: Well, the title suggests I'm new to being a bandit, and the accompanying text was my humorous attempt to relate my initial experiences as a new bandit. If I have in any way confused you, or wasted your time away from important international business then my apologies.

basically, the more you kill people the better you'll get at it. Don't just run in like a halo 4 player and expect to shoot everyone up, look for the flaws that people make. Watch them, wait for them to stop moving or to let their guard down. That's the best time to hold them up or shoot them up.

Yeah. Now Helsinki is going to burn. Thanks. >.>

If you join my server, I can show you some pretty good sniping spots. :)

Applejaxc: Does your server smell like the inside of a box of fruity pebbles? I'm very particular.

I heard there was an awesome sniper spot in the middle of the runway at north west airfield.

If you want to improve at shooting any gun, play the campaigns in ArmA II CO. Also try PvP servers, preferably those where you spawn with a rifle. The more you shoot, the better you'll get.

Yes, it seems, for the sake of my DayZ game play, I'm going to need to play more Arma2 as well.

I'm sure my wife will understand why I'll be squirreled away in my man cave for 8 hours a day.

"It's for improved accuracy honey!"

Just tell her you have something important to get done, like getting that head start on the vegetable garden :) She will understand!

The only advice i can give is what i have experienced by some bandits i have come across. If you shoot at someone but don't kill them and happen to get returning fire don't run off screaming like a little girl. Man up and take it.

The two most important things are:

1. Make sure you aren't seen.

2. Make sure you see them.

Ya I can't give ya any tips on being a bandit, im not a bandit, but jeff can or you should talk to lorc next time your on! He is starting a bandit clan i guess :) wants to add more diversity to our server. I told him that you were looking to learn so he knows you may be asking him :) !!! And oh did i have a poopie day today, got up for work at 5 am and worked till 1230 , then went outta town with my friend on what should have been a 2 hour trip....ended up being 5 hours cuz it was pouring down rain the whole way there.....and she made me like pull over at like every dang exit to wait for it to lighten up.... which it did about 10 min after we would stop, and then i would get back on the interstate, and it would miraculously start pouring down rain again....

>>

<<

So then on the way back it was the same thing....untill we got like 20 miles from home and it finally cleared up. Then she started driving, and there was a freaking dead skunk in the road, that she just happen to hit, and it was like instant gag reflex, and i was holding it back. It smelt so NASTY! Then we had to stop at Walmart and as i was pushing out the cart to the car she like screamed i like jumped and freaked out, and she is like omg look at that beetle, and it was HUGE, i cannot express how HUGE this thing was i mean i live in South Dakota and i have never seen a beetle this BIG, but i guess i ran over it when she seen it with the cart so it was dead either way, then we seen several more around us, and was like screw this, and hurried up to leave lol.....Then on our way home we see this bright green light in the sky, and we like stop and get out to look, and didn't see it anymore....it was a really LONG night and strange, and poopy all at the same time LOL Hope your night was better :)

Some tips not just for banditing

1. dont go immediately to a body after a kill

2. once you have waited 5-10 minutes slowly approach the body, get the gear get out and move to another shot

3. dont take a shot unless you know 100% that you can hit them

4. I hate to say it but 3rd person is your best friend

5. always always watch behind you

6. dont be a knob and sit on electro sniper hill

7. if you get shot at dont panic get somewhere you cant get shot i.e. behind a tree bandage up then sprint if you cant see where they are firing from (use a smoke if you have one)

8. learn weapon sounds the difference between getting shot at from an AK and a M14 could mean life or death, it will also help distinguish how many enemy players there are (if they have different weapons)

9. get a pair of suround sound headphones, knowing the direction of fire/ vehicle direction is key

10. if your going to the NWAF loot the north barracks approach from the tree line and get the hell out of there, do NOT go for hangers or the ATC

11. Choppers are more hassle then they are worth if it is just you on your own, my favourite vehicle is the push bike :)

12. get your sniper zero'd before you see someone, aim at a spot where you think players will come to and get yourself zero'd to that spot

13. never fire your weapon at a Z unless its silenced, if you are a bandit people knowing you are in the vacinity is GG

14. try to lose agro asap, if i am scouting for players the first thing i will spot is a conga line of Z's

15. If they have a gun that can kill you kill them first (if you are in a bandit skin(common sense really))

16. Never trust someone without a mic

17. Work in a pair if you can, lone wolf is all well and good but having a partner that can watch your flank with a

18. Lose your conscience. The first kill is always the worst but with time you won't care as your soul will blacken... lol.

Ha! I thought for a moment you wrote: "18. Lose consciousness" - which I couldn't figure out the advantage of - but it happens frequently with my character after some zed punches.

Wait, you were in a bandit group wondering how to be a bandit? Shoot them all in the back! Then spend the rest of the day laughing.
