Pvt. James Duke 28 Posted April 20, 2013 So I just want to help some new players make it in the harsh unforgiving wasteland that is DayZ. Lets begin shall we. Your biggest enemy in the first 10 minutes of gameplay are zombies. I call this stage: "The Help Me's". These are identified by their calls for help in side chat. "Help Me's" just need to hit up firehouses, supermarkets, and hospitals. By this point you should have a weapon with at least 3 mags and a better pack filled with food and water. Not to mention compass and knife and maps. Now this stage is what I call "Bambi's". They can be identified with their low grade weapons and are almost always found in wooded areas. Surprisingly enough I have found that Bambi's have a higher life expectancy than any other player types. A Bambi only needs to make it to Stary Sobor to be called a "Outlaw". A outlaw will have a high tier weapon and very good gear. They tend to be the owners of a vehicle or have a quest and means to repair one. Avoid outlaws at all costs because the reason I call them outlaws is they rob you but usually don't kill you. Then we have "Highway Men" these low life's park a car on a main road and camp it and wait for unsuspecting Bambi's and even outlaws to wander up. Highway Men usually break people legs and take their stuff. Then we have Bandits which hunt everyone and are a evolved form of Outlaws. I hope this helps you identify players and help you determine your play style.

Pvt. James Duke 28 Posted April 20, 2013 That's just what I think of when I think of Bambi's people living in the woods.
Ken Bean 175 Posted April 20, 2013 (edited) That's just what I think of when I think of Bambi's people living in the woods. This was what I thought as well as I heard the term Bambies the 1st time in DayZ. Bambis are living in the woods, I though, eating berries and stuff. But no, the term obviously is misleading, they are kind of fresh spawns or new player, whatever. I'd suggest to call those, who are living in the woods, lone wolfes. Edited April 20, 2013 by Ken Bean
Steak and Potatoes 13480 Posted April 20, 2013 Dont quote me on this as I am far from up to par on lingo's. From what I recollect bambis are fresh spawns on the coast unarmed. Gentlemen in the woods can be defined as lone wolves aswell as the slender man.
herrjon 478 Posted April 21, 2013 You're welcome to use whatever terms you like, but bambie is usually people new to the game and don't really know what they're doing or where they are. I typically refer to the folks hanging out in the woods as hermits or survivormen, but that's just a pesonal term, most call them lone wolves.I'm not so sure about your Outlaw and Highwaymen not killing. When given the choice of what to do with an unsuspecting player, they will either help, hide, or kill. Rarely will a moderately geared player rob or capture people, at least in my experience. The only ones that do that sort of thing are those with a bunch of gear and camps all over, so they don't care if things go south for them, what you would classify as bandit, or KoS player. Still a good list, just don't want new players expecting only to be killed by end-game geared players. Also, no Hero type? Or scavenger? Hero will seek out hurt players or players in danger and help, reconized by the Hero skin, varying gear. Scavenger, seen in towns or major cities, carrying some sort of silenced weapon and a large pack. They stay to themselves and actively avoid player interaction.

Ken Bean 175 Posted April 21, 2013 (edited) The rule is to randomize word endings. It's spelled wrong as soon as the same typing repeats. Edited April 21, 2013 by Ken Bean

And my point was, those people do exist yes, I've been robbed and kidnapped before myself, but they are few and far between, probably even less of them than there are Heroes. JeffDetroit 717 Posted April 25, 2013 Good subject. Even if we can't all agree on the "names" - knowing the various modes of operation is useful. Beyond: bambi, noobs, lone-wolf, bandits, snipers, highwaymen, and squadies, there are: "chicken-blasters" the beginning players who scare easily and fire their entire semi-auto clip into the wildlife; "rooftoppers" who camp up high to check out the city and get popped by snipers; "gear turtles" confused players who take forever to work through their inventory system to load their shit, while sitting out in the open; "tent hounds" players who spend hours tramping through forests looking for other player's tents to raid; "dinner bells" new players who needlessly fire off noisy guns attracting zeds; and "Conga Liners" players who run down the highway out of town with a bunch of aggroed zeds on their tail.
OrLoK 16185 Posted April 25, 2013 (edited) Hello ThereI think Bambi just doesn't suit new spawns. We need a word that describes a soggy, confused helpless individual.Bambi, just seems too cute and Disney-esque to my ears.RgdsLoKEdit: A Wilson? -Gews- 7443 Posted April 25, 2013 Huh? New spawns are bambis?I thought a bambi meant a clueless player who's generally terrible at the game and either overly frightened or overly trusting. If a bambi is a fresh spawn, that means I'm a bambi whenever I join a new server or die... dang. Bambi Gews. :( I'm not a great player but I like to think I'm above that...
JeffDetroit 717 Posted April 25, 2013 Hmmm, a name for new spawns other than Bambi or Noob:Czechies (bc they spawn with a nearly empty one);GreenBeaners (kinda like a "greenhorn" but with beans, obviously);BamBams (after The Flintstones, and they shoot off the loudest guns in cities instead of running past Zeds);Flotsam (the stuff that is carried in on top of the waves at the beach (coastal new spawns))

terminal_boy 860 Posted April 25, 2013 Agoraphobic Lurker is an apt description of my play style. I hide in the forests looting camps to avoid going near the larger towns as I get twitchy when I have less than 50 metres of forest between myself and an open space.Unless I screw up, you won't know I'm following you in the hope that you'll lead me to a camp as I won't shoot unless you spot me and become a threat.

HardCoreNinja7 24 Posted April 25, 2013 I also go by "Bambi" sometimes but those are people that have low end gear and a crappy gun. I freshly new spawned player to me is called a "New Spawn" or a "New Guy" I don't really have a good name about them but what ever. And lastly a player with high end gear, a good gun, and and maybe even a team I call depending on the clothes. Gillie Suit - "Bush Wookie" Regular Clothes - "Possible Friendly/Hostile" and finally Bandit Skin - "Bandit". I don't really have good names for these players but I think this thread and going along thinking about it will help me come up with new names.
