Voicechat simulating shouting, whispering, etc.

Recommended Posts

Not sure if this has been up for discussion or if it has been mentioned in interviews, or the likes.

I'd really like to see at least three different levels of voicechat that simulates whispering, normal indoor speech and shouting, all toggled in the same manner as before (in vehicle, all chat, etc).

The way I imagine it could work would be (for example) shouting affecting a larger area of "hearabilty" than whispers for example.

To set a scene of its uses:

Imagine going through a building with a mate looking for loot with maybe another one in the next building. You and your mate use the whisper toggle so that you only hear in an area of maybe a couple of meters. Suddenly people starts talking to you through the next room in the same whisper toggle, so that they don't alert nearby people or zombies. Suddenly you realize that these guys are probably bandits and are planning to kill you. So you toggle on the shouting-"mode" to call for your buddy.

If you decide to use the "normal speaking" mode in an effort to call your buddy but not attract zombies your friend might not be able to hear you (but the bandits obviously would, and would come charging in to the room and your friend being completely confused about the gunfire in the next building).

Now, in a scene like this all different levels would of course have its advantages and disadvantages. If you were to call for your buddy using the shouting mechanic zombies might be alerted not to say other survivors increasing the threat level at the same time you increase the chances of being saved by your buddy.

Another scene:

You and a random dude (that you dont know and have just teamed up with) decides to stick together while traveling up north to maybe the airfield. You have no other means of communications besides in the game voice chat (so no Skype or TeamSpeak). Across a small field you see a guy armed and probably looking for something to hunt (deer, cows, etc.). You decide to go and check out if this guy maybe needs help or is able to help you.

This situation with the current in game voice functions pose a problem in communicating effectively with your new found friend and the unknown person in the field. You might want to be able to whisper stuff to your friend next to you while shouting questions to the guy in the field. Such as you probably might do in a real situation.

So, thoughts people? Good or bad idea? (Again, tell me if there's a discussion about this already. If there is, just graveyard this post)

:D

Aside from the smartass above me, I believe this is a great feature. It's good to communicate to someone you don't know or speaking in different chat radius' in certain situations like sneaking around and such.

They should make it so that you have to actually shout at the top of your lungs in order to "shout" in the game.

Actually this can already be simulated in the game by simple whispering or shouting, if you are 40 feet from me and I whisper to my friend it will be so quiet you will not hear it.

Get up on a roof and just press Caps Lock for fun, don't talk. Any zombie who wanders in your talk-radius will aggro, I noticed this a while ago.

I do like the suggestion though, if they can implement it like Gews said it would be kick-ass.
