jBrick 116 Posted April 17, 2013 I like to think of myself as the heartless most evil bandit there is. Truth is, I can kill any player on any given day, hide the body and feel remorseless... but once in a while I think we all reach that point where you just can't bring yourself to shoot. I reached that point the other day....I play on US 3480 (best server ever, bring friends) and was running around in game with 6 other people. So I'm rocking out with my AS50, a couple grenades and a whole buncha lets go shoot somebody running through my veins. I'm bopping along happily between Cherno and Elektro and what do I see in the distance *GASP* a helicopter! Then I see sidechat lighting up with:James: I got the Windscreen glass.Toby: I got a main rotor.John: YES!! ENGINE PARTS!!Bill: I can't find any jerry'sSuave: I got the jerry cans bil.... find some scrap metal. The stark realization that I am LITERALLY the only person on the server NOT repairing the chopper hit me like a ton of bricks (pun intended). So, given that it was sitting almost directly under peak and across from the lighthouse of doom... I chose to get into the lighthouse with the intention of ending their little game of "get to the choppa." These guys puttered around looking for parts for this thing for what must have been an hour while I patiently sat waiting for the five of them to all be in the same place at the same time so I could invariably end them. I mean, that's what you get for using sidechat and practically giving me five murders right? So I literally watch them... AS50 sighted in for five hundred meters waiting for them to all get around the chopper. Then I felt it.... a twinge -- a nagging feeling of impending guilt that is often associated with doing something scuzzy. I mean, here I am, best sniper rifle in the game loaded to the tits, watching a buncha guys with hatchets and lee enfields just waiting for the right moment to shoot all of them and steal their now repaired chopper. I was going to waste these poor saps and they'd never stood a chance. Not only that, they'd have wasted about two hours of their lives fixing the super sized chopper... and then it happened. The guy put on his engine parts while all of his buddies were off finding parts, glitched into the damn chopper and passed out bleeding. I couldn't take it... I did what anybody with a heart would do... I ran in there and dragged his stupid body out from the chopper, bandaged him, morphined' him, put an epi in his backpack and ran to the top of peak. I sat and watched with some pride as they loaded up and prepared to fly off thinking... "wow... I helped make this happen and saved that guy and made sure they had fun playing DayZ. I think I might become a he..... fuck that..." Wish I could say I waited til all five were there and threw my grenade with precision and blew them all up... but alas... I just couldn't bring myself to do it. - Brick

liquidmind 320 Posted April 17, 2013 for me, that's the real beauty of dayZ. You go in, you do what seems natural, and then you start to think about it.Biggest mistake you can make: Thinking that it's just a game.

Very Ape 748 Posted April 17, 2013 (edited) Lee Enfield in hand, I had a British kid at gunpoint inside of the Elektrogorsk church. I had shot at him first, before chasing him into the church, but as I was doing this another person started firing at us. He asked me not to kill him, and just as I was about to, I spotted a double-barreled shotgun near the altar.A diabolical plan hatched in my mind.I asked the boy to take the weapon, and forced him to exit the church, knowing fully well we were pinned down. Much to my surprise, he amiably agreed to the task, and ran out of the church. I expected him to die, or at least run away. I heard an exchange of gunfire, and the boy ran back inside the church, weapon lowered, cheerfully informing me that he had killed our aggressor. Stunned, I didn't kill him, unsure as to why he hadn't picked up on my clearly hostile intentions. But still, there was no trust to be had. I led him outside at gunpoint, allowing him to keep his pea-shooter, and led him to the supermarket. I was going to keep him around as cannon fodder. As I looted the buildings, he stood watch faithfully enough, but I was still planning on disposing of him when we cleared Elektrogorsk. As we stepped inside the office building, we were shot at. One bandit ran inside, and was put down by my Lee Enfield. We made our way to the roof, when another bullet struck me. I lost consciousness, and I heard the boy asking me if I was still alive, visibly worried. He was prone next to me. He dragged me to cover and bandaged me. But for some reason, he ran back outside, and was shot.At this point, I was stunned by his loyalty. Having been shot by a Lee Enfield, I knew that if I didn't act he would die. For some reason I can't explain, I charged outside and started dragging him to cover. I could have easily survived the firefight, had I left him, but I didn't. I was shot, and we lay there, our blood pooling around us, unconscious, and then death took us, together. Edited April 17, 2013 by Very Ape

Just because your girlfriend isn't Kim Kardashian, doesn't mean you have to be all like "You cray Harry, yo' girlfriend isn't Kim Kardashian."

CyanidC 39 Posted April 19, 2013 I know that feeling all too well, i think of myself as a coldhearted, lone wolf. But even as that you sometimes have to endure respawn. I respawned at the coast after having some admins hunt me down for being a bandit, I found and AK-74 and 4 clips for it, a British backpack and some medical loot in cherno. As i was making my way towards the firestation and past a couple of bodies (not my kills) i see some bambi with a hatchet running around. No real threat to me, but he had a bigger backpack. I aimed at him and he spotted me. "Friendly! Please don't shoot!" comes through the voice chat. It was at that moment when i felt something in me die. The bloodlust was gone. There i am in the middle of a field next to the firestation with that bambi and his hatchet. His backpack might have been full of neat loot that i surely could've used, but i just couldn't kill him. I turned around and ran away, climbed up on a small roof, watched him loot the firestation and run off into the distance.
sanguinius 7 Posted April 20, 2013 I was watching Elektro with my trusty CZ when I saw a commotion. Indeed, it was the famous Afro brothers, who frequently talked on side chat as if they were in a normal conversation. Cute, eh? I thought it was. Then, suddenly, the biggest pile of zombies came into the church, and a hailstorm of gunfire flared out. It was amazing to watch: Fully automatic AK-74 fire, for about 5 minutes intermittently. The gunfire stopped. I then heard a mixture of Enfield and Winchester shots, and marvelled at the skills of these guys, and their dedication. As time went on, even as more zombies flooded in, their gunfire became more accurate. The firestation ceased to be hit by stray shots, and zombies dropped down fast. They switched to their sidearms. They valiantly continued on, as the zombies ceased to end. The gunfire ended. I felt a small feeling of apprehension. Grenade explosions. Seriously, they were using grenades! The explosions ceased, and yet they still survived for ten more minutes. Then, a wave of M240 fire smacked the church, and killed the entire zombie horde, and one of the survivors. A ghillie man entered the building, and I felt a strong feeling. That man was going to kill him! After that extroadinary display of kills. I decided to get the SUV and drive down there as fast as I could. I heard a single shot. In dread, I jumped out and shot down the ghillie man with no less than 7 shots from my AKM. I patched up the man, dropped the AKM (I had an M4A3 anyway) and food and drink. I dropped him off at the North East Airfield, and departed. I picked up the survivor that died with him, and took him to the NEA.You may think that it's nothing special holding off a horde of zombies, but it was for something like 20 minutes. They had inherent badassery in them.

Smith Comma John 16 Posted April 25, 2013 I don't even think of it as doing something wrong. That's the point of the game isn't it? Zombies are not challenging opponents, you can kill as many as you have bullets (and then a shitload more with your axe). Other players make the game dangerous. That's why you don't want zombies following you, because drawing attention to yourself is how you get killed.
