Serged 0 Posted April 10, 2013 (edited) I played some Dayz again after a long time of not playing the mod. I wanted to try a mod of the mod, namely Dayz Namalsk, but this probably doesn't matter. But what I noticed pretty fast is that many people (even more than in earlier days) just behave very stupidly nowadays.I had just looted a Winchester and this guy with an axe just ran at me yelling "friendly ... hey you, friendly, don't shoot" with a slight Russian accent, with a horde of zeds chasing him. Well I ran off as I didn't want to deal with his zombie friends and I thought he may be hostile. I ran and ran and he followed me for quite a while. I didn't shoot him even though I could have shot him easily. After a while I waited for him. I thought maybe he is friendly after all when he's following me for this long, armed only with an axe and he's probably not gonna stop following me anyway. But when he was near me he one hit killed me with his axe. (I don't know if the axe always is a one hit kill. When I stopped playing last time, there were no melee weapons) and then he didn't even loot my body ... Later I saw him again, he didn't have my Winchester. Then he got killed by some zeds.Even later I got shot at by some guy from afar, when I was busy fending off a horde of zeds. I stepped off a ledge by accident because of those shots and then died.Well it was pretty frustrating and I quit for the day.I know this "PvP" part does belong into the game and in my opinion does contribute a lot to the games suspense, I wouldn't want to miss it. But the problem is people don't play the game as it is intended to be played imho. I think it's legitimate to kill someone to loot his stuff etc or when he's a threat to you. But there are so many people who think dayz is another deathmatch game and this really kills the fun for me.What do you think about this aspect of the game and is it "worse" than earlier or was I just unlucky? terminal_boy 860 Posted April 10, 2013 Due to the very limited resources being centred around just a few locations, Namalsk is always 24/7 kill on sight PvP deathmatch. If you want to play PvE, choose another map.
green-K- 101 Posted April 10, 2013 Namalsk is a pure PvP-map imo, because of the big amount of military loot (there are around 7 or 8 barracks, Seraja army base, the bunker and so on) and the few available lootspots for food and medical suppliments (Old hospital, and supermarket in Vorkuta). djcounta101@hotmail.com 3 Posted April 10, 2013 I think pvp has a place in the game but its not the be all and end all ,but the mod has outlived it's use sorta now there's nothing more to explore for veteran players who are bored of it in a way,and I think I speak for a lot of players when I say I'm a sick to death of helping other players only to be shot on the back or having my camp looted , and that's why more people turn into murderers and bandits cos there so paranoid about getting killed . as for crazy axe stalkers an stupid behaviour well the mod is designed to enable any sort of play style idiotic included we can't stop fools playing after all .... Serged 0 Posted April 10, 2013 Oh this explains a lot. Ye I noticed, there seemed to be a lot of good weapon spawns but very few food and drink spawn locations. What other map can you recommend to me then? I have only played vanilla dayz so far, and quite extensively, so I wanted to try some new map :)And don't get me wrong, I like the PvP aspect. Some PvP situations in vanilla dayz have been what makes dayz such a special game to me. They create the most suspense in the game, when you fear for your virtual character that you managed to keep alive for several days or even weeks and have accumulated a lot of gear. I just don't like the deathmatchy PvP since it feels off in a game like dayz. I mean in a real life zombie apocalypse situation, would you try to kill someone just for "fun"? No I don't think so. You would either try to bond together or kill them for their gear but not for "fun". And this is how most players behaved when the mod was quite young. This COD deathmatch mentality has only taken over after the mod was quite popular. But then maybe I was just unlucky with my encounters/map choice and have drawn false conclusions. I also turned into a paranoid murderer after being killed several times by new players back when I used to play a lot. But I never just hunt somebody down for the "fun" of it. I only killed when they became a threat to me or my friend.
enforcer1975 1111 Posted April 10, 2013 Welcome to the game where you can play an asshole all day long without consequences... Don't trust anyone if you are alone, trust them only if you have buddies backing you up. That's what we do when we meet a new player who won't come into our teamspeak even if he has a mike, we even got rid of one because he acted too suspicious, others we let let go their way. Some people people starting hostilities confuse this game with a DM with zombies, some don't give a damn because it's fun, some resorted to this kind of action because of the confused and funny people, we have our loop... Serged 0 Posted April 10, 2013 Also, is there maybe some whitelisted/passworded servers around where there's only people who play the game a bit more seriously?I'm quite new to this mod of the mod thing and private hives etc. When I played this was only just starting and frowned upon by Rocket. Saethkept 134 Posted April 10, 2013 (edited) I would disagree that Namalsk is always kill on sight all the time. Months ago I was at my camp near the Sebjan Warehouse (on a 30/50 server) when I received a distress call from guy who said he was trapped in the barracks at A2. I had never been to A2, knew nothing about the bunker, but anyway. I had a black SUV. I hopped in and drove over there. Turned out the guy had never played on Namalsk before. He had no food/water, a broken leg and two bloodsuckers waiting outside. Of course I was certain it was a trap, but he turned out to be a legit greenhorn. We ended up hopping in teamspeak and playing together a number of times. On topic; The face of DayZ can readily, easily appear to be cast by only bloodthirsty killer types. I had been pushed toward that belief once, but unlike another online zombie game, DayZ is much friendlier overall. Good people are out there, you just have to be willing to take a risk to find them. Of course, I admit that sometimes I am in no mood to play silly games with would be betrayer types and so rather than an olive branch I extend to them a couple of subsonic 9mm rounds to the kneecap. Overall, friends are often waiting to be made in game, and not everyone is a craven backstabber. Edited April 10, 2013 by Saethkept

You do start with a map, compass, hunting knife and matches, so it might not be for the DayZ purist. But that stuff is easy enough to find anyway. The plus side is it seems to be relatively hacker-free and I haven't found too many idiots on the servers. People will either be proper bandits or will respect "friendly" challenges. Occasionally someone might get nervous and shoot you if you don't respond fast enough, but for the most part I haven't met too many retards.
m.cab 83 Posted April 12, 2013 Wait a minute! What are you saying there? Your story seems to imply that most of the people are actually stupid! Could that be true? -_-
