Hi.

So imagine this:

You shoot a player in the back, startled, and go up to check on him. He dies in your arms. You search his gear, and find a small notebook.

"To whoever is reading this: Fuck you. I'm probably dead, and you're probably enjoying my stuff. Congradulations. I've been alive for IIII IIII IIII IIII IIII IIII IIII III weeks. I've got a little girl, Clem. She's at camp waiting for dinner. The dinner you're eating. My little girl is starving because of you, bastard.

"If it does so concern you, there is a bag of food in locker #32 at the Cherno train station. It is blue. The key is hidden under a sack of bad grains in the corner of the building. I've marked my map Camp 1 so you can find Clem. Feed her, and then you leave her alone."

You roll the body onto its back and find a map tucked into his breast pocket. You pull it out. There's a bullet hole that's torn Stary Sobor into 2 cities. A smattering of blood and ink runs off the page. A thick, black circle with "CLEM X" is was marked. You'll never know where Clem is, and now she is going to die. Alone.

OR situation two:

Everything above, except you go to Cherngorsk and find locker #32. You grab the key and open the locker. BLAM C4 detcord-on-door trap goes off in a large flash of light.... but you're okay.

A message in the locker says, "I was never good at making bombs anyway. I hope you're at least blind. I lied about the food."

DayZ could have SO MUCH in it....

Just think about the Machinima aspects this system would have?

And this is how it works:

You have a Book, which is your gun. You have paper, which is your magazine. You have pencils/pens, which are your ammo (or vice-versa). When you "Fire" a menu pops up that lets you write with full keyboard/mouse control.

OR

Combine notebook/pencil paper/pencil whatever/whatever to get writing material. Right-click "Writing material" and open up a GUI like above.

Most importantly...

Allow keyboard shortcuts to work. CNTRL + V should help you paste something, so you can leave a message on different servers.

No hyperlinks allowed.

Bold/italics/strike-out not required, but would be nice.

Maybe when you type, it's in clear text, but when you hit "Done" and it's published, it converts to handwriting? And you choose taller/smaller-wider/thinner handwriting fonts based on anxiety, damage, heavy breathing? So if you're bleeding to death, your handwriting is going to be harder to read than if you're relaxing by your fire place!

FINALLY, but not leastly: The ability to save a message you read in-game as a .txt on your desktop, so later when you're on the forums talking about this *awesome* note you read, you've got something to actually quote?

So here's the question:

Car Coords, X, Y, Z

Et cetera, X, Y, Z

Then I sneeze on it.

So the player goes running across the map to find my "Gear" but all he gets is AIDS?

Since spreading of diseases will be fleshed out in great detail you can expect this to become a major game mechanic:

"Cholera, Typhoid fever... the level of detail we're going with diseases in game is so freaking awesome and scary..."
