KILLG00N 0 Posted April 7, 2013 I'm looking for a new computer. I want to be able to run Dayz and Skype with out lag or choppiness. It needs to be a laptop and as cheap as possible. Any ideas or suggestions?
beastoverlord 574 Posted April 7, 2013 Laptop and cheap at the same time? If you want a cheap computer go desktop.
dulix11 731 Posted April 7, 2013 Laptops will struggle with DayZ/ArmA. Desktops are the way to go.
KILLG00N 0 Posted April 7, 2013 Alright. So what advice would you guys give me then? What are good laptops that will run it? Or good desktops?
beastoverlord 574 Posted April 7, 2013 My laptop is $2,500 and it still runs DayZ like crap. (Although it runs most other games 60+ FPS on max settings) Get a desktop for $1000 and you can run it easily.
KILLG00N 0 Posted April 7, 2013 Ok thanks. Are there any you recommend me looking at?
beastoverlord 574 Posted April 7, 2013 Custom building it if you can will save you probably 30% at least.
dulix11 731 Posted April 7, 2013 The CPU would need to be at least 3.0GHz for smooth gameplay. The GPU needs to be in the higher end if you want excellent quality, otherwise anything else should run it on low.8 gigs of RAM is ideal and also improves performance. If you can find a laptop that includes all that (which I have, in a JB-HI FI catalouge, 3.2GHz, Radeon 7750 and 1TB HDD, only for about $750 AUD.) I will be surprised. And BeastOverlord is right, building it will save you money and is pretty easy.
King of Blackheath 6 Posted April 7, 2013 I recently built my first one, and although there a possibly better deals out there for the more experienced PC builder, for a first try I am pretty happy. The spec is:CPU - AMD A8 5600k - Quad Core 3.6GhzGPU - GTX 660 Ti (2gb)Motherboard - Gigabyte GA-F2A85XM-DH3 (probably my weakest element)RAM - 8gb Kingston 1333mhzHard Drive - 128Gb SanDisk SSDI can run Dayz on high settings and it has no problems. All of that cost me about £650 (with dvd drive, mouse, keyboard and case etc, as I started with absolutely nothing)

KILLG00N 0 Posted April 7, 2013 Thanks. Does anyone have any tips or anything they can tell me? I want to build a desktop, but have never done it before. I'm looking to spend about $700-$800 and have no idea what I'm doing. Would I just be better off buying a prebuilt computer?
Tony752 1 Posted April 8, 2013 This topic does say its for new people to the mod so I'll just put my questions out there. Arma 2 runs on Steam, so that means you are running DayZ through Steam. Does that mean my Steam name is the name that appears to other players when (for example) I connect to a server or do I have some sort of other name I would go by?
