Evidence of Military 'Defense' in Cities

Military presence in cities

19 members have voted

  1. 1. Should large cities have evidence of military presence from attempting to defend what was once, the survivors?

    • Yes, I think it is a good idea and will add to the standalone/mod.

I think that large cities such as Chernogorsk should have showing military presence that once tried to defend the survivors from the infected, but eventually got overrun themselves. What I mean is that, when the apocalypse started, obviously the military attempted to make some sort of fortification to keep out infected and of course got overrun. I'm not asking for any NPC survivors, but things such as roadblocks, barricades, downed tanks, infected soldiers, etc. to show what happened in the previous five years and add to the story. The only problems I see with this is that of course these military men had rifles and overpowered weapons to handle the threat. A possible solvent for this is by making ammunition for it scarce, and empty clips much more common.

What do you think?

Yeah, all of this stuff is already in the mod.

There are car and tank wrecks almost everywhere.

Some of the infected are also Czech soldiers.

What I mean is heavier roadblocks and barricades, ones that looked as if they really tried to fortify the city before they got overran. It's not really that different (apart from the car wrecks) from the original Chernogorsk.

And it says 5 years into the apocalypse on the website. Not on the website anymore. I don't remember where I read that it was five years, though.

Well that's not exactly possible in the mod, as there are few choices of barricades and such in the ArmA 2 editor, but I'm sure stuff like this will be added into Chernarus+.

You're probably thinking of the DayZ 2017 mod mod, set 5 years after the outbreak.

1. This is already in the game.

2. 5 years?

It actually makes sense, even though he is getting confused with DayZ mod. It would probably take several years for the infection to take down most of the world when humans are working against it. It would also, help explain the shoot on sight mentality. Resources got rare as factories and stores started shutting down and looters started taking everything, meaning it was a desperate battle for resources.

There are sandbag defenses all around the city.. Most notably in the Hotel area and in the train rails.

But I agree with you, they need to step it up a little bit. Sandbag bunkers in some spots isn't enough :D

A 100% contagious virus transmitted by all kinds of direct and indirect contacts would reach nearly every populated place on this planet within a few weeks I guess.

Wouldn't it make more sense for there to be sign saying 'Head North to Stary, Military base, safety!' or crackled Russian radio signals that tell you to go north for safety. If there are military grade weapons in Cherno then why leave Cherno? we have too many coast monkeys as it is.

Have you been to Cherno?

I agree with this suggestion.

I played a variant of DayZ called Anyone in Cherno? wherein the entire town square of Chernogorsk had been turned into a makeshift military outpost, and vehicle wrecks and corpses littered the streets. The mood was so intense; I never felt so frightened by the environment in DayZ.

In any case, the cities are not large enough, or important enough to warrant strategic fortifications. Abandoned evacuation centres perhaps?

I've been making celle into a huge city and have been adding areas of military outposts. As of right now, in the mod, server owners can add these things
