zqpmxn 0 Posted April 3, 2013 So i have narrowed the game down to about 10% scavenging and inventory management, about 5% of doing things like shooting and other side activities, but about 85% of the game seems to be running from place to place. It seems like all of that running gets very boring quickly. I'm just wandering if there is anything we could come up with to ask the developers if there is anymore fun or interesting ways to travel in a zombie apocalypse. herrjon 478 Posted April 3, 2013 (edited) Well as far as game mechanics, there are vehicles, you just have to work for them. I don't know what else you would have in mind. Beyond chatting with my mates on the trips, I just enjoy the scenery and pass the time constantly looking around for other players and tents. Just assume there's always someone tailing you. herrjon 478 Posted April 3, 2013 Like what about using fast travel when you are out of danger and only to areas you have already discovered? That would go against the core design goals of the game, and make vehicles nearly pointless. In DayZ, it's the journey and not the destination, which is why on vanilla servers you start with nothing and work your way up the ladder, not start with M4's and DMR's. pmjkerr 76 Posted April 3, 2013 Macros...So interesting I can get up and have a shit or make some tea, come back to find my character running into the side of a barn being eaten by zombies.
zqpmxn 0 Posted April 3, 2013 Good point. I forgot about vehicles since i hardly ever use them. I wondering if having more interesting loot in the world and not having to travel to far to find it would be a good idea. Like gathering enough construction supplies to build an extra wall around your base or creating your own vehicles with weapon turrets attached to it.

hogscraper 328 Posted April 3, 2013 by bicycleof courseWhen you hit a speed around 60 coming down a mountain side, you realize what fun travelling can be. Plus, outrunning a guy in a car offroad while you're pedaling like a madman is just too funny.

Sozinho 58 Posted April 3, 2013 Pretty sure this will be better in the standalone because with zombies not despawning they'll be able to wander all across the map
Saethkept 134 Posted April 3, 2013 (edited) If fast travel were ever implemented, I would use it to emigrate all maps post-haste from DayZ.On foot is more interesting. There's more to each map than Land_mil_barracks_i! Of course, finding a shot to all swiss cheese and back again vehicle, and repairing it is a very satisfying accomplishment AND you get to ride in it to other places. Remember those old Fallout games (no, the isometric view ones)? Remember how we could only dream of driving in real time around the map that ultra rare car fixed with ultra hard to develop skills and ultra hard to find parts? Well my friend, now you can ...in DayZ. Until then, take the shoe leather express! Edited April 3, 2013 by Saethkept
Mr Mouse 61 Posted April 3, 2013 No fast travel. It's not a popular MMO, or Fallout 3/New Vegas. The game is supposed to be about realism and scavenging. If zombies attacked the world and people drove far away in their various vehicles, then you would have to walk - so walk you must. Either learn to move those lazy legs, or look for another game my friend.Standalone will however address some of these issues. Base building, increased scavenging and a few more hotspots/redesigned towns/swamps - more variety. You will however, still need to walk vast distances across the map until you get friends with cars who are willing to pick you up. How players will play the game upon release remains to be seen however. Will people be friendly and offer help such as transport, or will everyone shoot on sight? I hope for the prior.
saurskaut 0 Posted April 3, 2013 How About Riding A Llama? Or A Robot Zombie? Or a Ferris Wheel. Maybe A Giant Pair Of Goggles.Either Get A Car. Bike. Boat. Or Heli. Or Just Walk. Set A Few Fireplaces and hunt when walking.

crosa 93 Posted April 3, 2013 I tend to just Jam a pair of nail clippers above the W key and sit back and surf the web on my phone whilst gently moving my character out of the way of trees and houses etc...
terminal_boy 860 Posted April 3, 2013 Having zombies roaming all over the place will make travelling plenty interesting as you won't be able to sprint through the woods with complete abandon any more on low pop servers.
badluckburt 974 Posted April 3, 2013 (edited) You could always hire one of those Chinese WoW farmers and let him do the running for you, only agree to pay him if he makes it to the point you tell him. Then, login as another guy, hunt him down, steal your own gear, don't pay the guy and hire another one. Crazy one 124 Posted April 4, 2013 Me what do i do, well i stay away from Cherno and Elektro, i head straight out into the wilderness least explored places (once i have enough food/drink) with me and my trusty axe, on my journey i usually go zombie hunting to lighten things up, hoppers are the most fun run up behind axe to the head/body.Usually heading out into nowhere/wilderness reaps some good benefits, in one 5 hour stint i came across 3 heli crash sites, PP-19 SD/ SVD Camo and Night vision goggles all at seperate sites, SVD camo was fun picking off zeds from distance on way too NWAF(no loot), on way back i found the PP-19 SD was fun to use.so i would suggest exploring the most unexplored places you never know what you will find.
