Dayz/Arma2/Arma3

Recommended Posts

First off sorry if this is in the wrong forum.

I've not been up to date with PC gaming for awhile now due to moving about all over the place and my PC staying at home. Anyway never heard of Dayz or Arma til recently, and years ago was an avid lover of OFP (I gather Arma is the sequel to flashpoint?).

Anyway I'll get equal joy from playing the original Arma game as I would from Dayz but I see there's the standalone coming out and Arma 3 is already in Alpha. It looks like Dayz servers are privately owned now and the game is more like grand theft auto than a survival game, and with Arma 3 just round the corner too, am I better waiting for them to be released or just get Arma 2 and Dayz now?

I'm not exactly overflowing with cash so I'm willing to be patient to wait for the perfect product(s) and have football manager/fifa 13 which could see me out for years...

I really wouldn't go near a game that's full of hacking and kids 'pwning n00bs', and the whole appeal of Dayz is the struggle to survive, so being a bit like GTA wears the appeal off. Are there still decent servers? And is Arma 3 going to be a whole deal better than Arma 2?

Just like to see the takes from people who are familiar with both games.

Thanks in advance...

Well I live in a brand spanking new build house, built like crap though, lumps of concrete sticking up out the floor, windows not sealed, mould grows in the corners etc.

All the walls have got the standard magnolia paint until I can be arsed to paint them.

Missus, daughter live here with me, she's always watching rubbish like come dine with me.

Hope this helps :D

The DayZ standalone is not going to be released soon. The Alpha is possibly slated to start in June, then you have closed and open betas, then the release. I'd be surprised to see it released in September. I'd think that November/December is probably a more accurate estimate.

There are servers on the public hive and then there are private hive servers. The public hive servers are the original DayZ game. No modifications. No items upon spawning, items are retained from one server to the next. Private hives allow server admins to edit the maps, add items, give starting loadouts and more. There's a server for everyone in DayZ, be it find all your own stuff from the start, or begin with some basic weapons and tools.

Definitely worth getting.

while a lot of the servers are privately owned they are open to all the reason for registration to wl and passwords is to stop hackers ruining the fun. theres a lot of different servers out that try an help with the killings of bambis :)

arma 3 is limited sp atm but plenty of custom missions are about.

arma2 co is a good game in in own right with plenty of mods/missions easy worth the money just for that

noone here can tell you what is best you need to do that for yourself

Thanks for input chaps, pretty much answers my questions about Dayz.

What other mods are there for Arma 2? Any other good ones? And same question for Arma 3...

Also is Arma 3 far superior?

I'm on the verge of clicking buy now, but just want to reassure there will be replay value and come May I won't be regretting just waiting and getting Arma 3 instead.

Cheers.

I would say Arma 3 is FAR better than Arma 2. They've addressed many of the long term issues that Arma2 had and it's a lovely looking game too.

Hello there

Arma 2/OA is a mature game with thousands of great mods and missions. Dayz being just one.

Arma3 is in "alpha" and has very little content in comparison. But once release as a full game, should be rather good. But that's a while away yet.

The Stand alone is also someway off.

ATM i would go for A2CO

It's a bloody amazing game (in Alpha but already 100's of hours of entertainment). Here's one of the tuts for it:

It's being updated regularly and theres hundreds of mods you can install via the "Spaceport". Have a look on YT to see some of the things the game offers, it's by far my fav game ATM, highly addictive. I'm trying to set up a base on the "Mun" ATM and it's great fun (hard too).

Just a quickie, I write the way I do out of force of habit, and legibility, rather than to be *cool*. Thanks for the suggestion though but keep on topic!
