Should I bother getting day z?

Recommended Posts

Well I've been watching a ton of DayZ videos recently and have been very intrigued by the gameplay and everything about it. After doing my research I found that the standalone will be coming out soon (no shit), so should I bother buying Arma 2? I know its only around 30 dollars including all dlc but should I waste my time buying a game for a buggy, hacker filled mod when a better improved game is coming? I mean I understand that mods arent perfect obviously, however Im really tempted to buy this game. I'm just afraid Im going to go through all the trouble just to end up being lag killed 24/7 and getting my anus ravaged by hackers. But I cant stay away.. :(

Buy the games on steam, download them, start both one time. Download and install arma 2 beta patch. Start dayzcommander and install latest dayz version with it. EASYMODEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.

Also dayz standalone will not be coming out in a while, i read that alpha is likely to come out in june. So the actual "finished" game is probably months away, possibly late this year.

Just think carefull before buying it, especially if you're only buying it mainly for dayz. The mod can be frustrating but also rewarding when you play with other people. The fun in it is as much about the game itself as the social bits.

Edit: Private servers rarely have hackers that stays too long ( they get permabanned) There are a lot of good private servers, i can recommend dayzbanana. If you're in european timezone we could play together if you want, just pm me with your skype. It's challenging to find people to play with regularly :l

There are others mods that are fun to play too if you get frustrated with DayZ. If 30 dollars is cheap/affordable for you then you should definitely get it.

There are whitelisted servers that prevents hacking if that worries you.

Standalone isn't coming until June or later so If you can wait that long that would be fine too.

You're not just getting DayZ, you're getting a great mil-sim that includes some of the best realism and large scale warfare ever. Also, the hackers aren't bad at all if you join a whitelisted private hive. Also, unless you're a dedicated PC gamer, you might wanna check the Can I run it thread before you buy it.

All in all, I'd say it's worth it.

If you don't have money to spend, and don't care about ArmA in itself, then just wait for the standalone. If you have money to spend, or have an interest in ArmA, you should definitely get it.

Join a private server. I haven't seen a single hacker on mine in 5 months. :)

DayZ is labeled at being really hack-filled but it really isn't if you are smart with what servers you join.

There's be no definite release for standalone yet. It will get here when it gets here.

If you're currently looking for a atmospheric, unique game and have a PC that can run it reasonably well. Then go for it, its half the price of any "big budget" game recently released and incredibly fun and sometimes frustrating at times.

Provided you can run it and can easily afford it, it'll be the best game you'll ever buy.

ArmA 2 is great practice for DayZ. 90% of players I fight never bothered playing the actual game and can't shoot for shit.

I bought Arma 2 when it first came out, but only played about 15 minutes. The controls were overwhelming to me so it sat in my list of Steam games for a long time until I happened upon a DayZ video. After watching that, I bought OA and set up DayZ and never looked back! I've probably got a total of 30 - 45 minutes playing time on Arma 2. This mod is definitely worth getting and it's worth spending the money for Arma 2 and OA.

1. Hackers are uncommon ever since private hives became popular, dayz gets labeled as full of hackers from about 8 months ago when it was a legitimate problem, the people who scream "dayz is full of hackers" forget to mention or dont know the problem is resolved.

I have encountered one hacker in 6 months.

2. the bugs, there are still some bugs but it is in no way unplayable, the bugs involve things like running down stairs or rocks at a funny angle and breaking your legs or accdently deleting items from your inventory ( you only have to do this once and you never will again )

3. its the best $30 I have ever spent, I not only play DayZ but also wasteland, Arma2, Takistani life and the Arma2 Editor...... the amount of content you get is ridiculous.

The Arma2 engine could be compared to Gmod in that it enables you to create custom missions, game modes and mods I play wasteland just as much as I play DayZ.
