Visual Effects from headgear

So, after seeing some footage of the DayZ standalone (looks great by the way), I thought that maybe wearing a piece of headgear should be visually noticeable when wearing it. It wouldn't have to be anything fancy, just something like a visor visible when you are wearing a baseball cap, or some vision blocked out when you put on a motorcycle helmet, and maybe some muffling of sound. I believe that everything should have its own benefits and tradeoffs, and this would be a great example of that.

That is a great idea in my opinion.

only thing im worried about is how it would look like in 3rd person. It would be kinda weird that your vision still looks like you have a motorcycle helmet on although you're not in first person.

It might look a bit strange, but it would be necessary, especially if they ever planned to balance 3rd person with 1st person. The ACE mod does this and it's not too bad.

It's actually a huge disadvantage in Arma to be fighting against someone who is uphill towards the sun, as you'll blind yourself staring into the sun.

If tactical glasses / sunglasses / etc actually reduced glare and lens-flare, it would be really cool :D

I like it.. and keep it basic aswell yes

If the standalone is done right hopefully it wont have 3rd person view. It doesn't belong in dayZ

Well, I'd say just for fairness, you'd still get the sound muffling in 3rd person, but any other effects such as limited vision probably won't make much sense or just look weird, other than say if the helmet visor was tinted your 3rd person vision would be tinted as well (same for sunglasses mentioned bellow)

The way the view works has the camera in front of the eye and uses the same player-model (maybe it's different for SA). To get this to work it'd probably have to be done as a simple overlay or a view model (which RV games tend not to use)

It would be a worthwhile addition to the game, provided it can be done in a way which provides lifelike benefits and not just a different look.

It'd be a lot of work, but it could be awesome if it's done right.

I remember having a similar discussion about the selection of glasses that are in the profile editor, and how they should affect your vision.

Running around in the dark with shades on.... What an asshole.

Since we're getting full clothing changes I'd assume SA will make glasses part of your clothes, not part of your face.
