Single Player Main Menu button

Recommended Posts

This is a continued conversation over from Reddit (put your differences aside ;) ). I am posting here as it is my understanding that the developers for the mod reside here more then on reddit. You can see what's been said at the following link, but otherwise:

http://www.reddit.com/r/dayz/comments/1ao4wa/mod_suggestion_reenable_single_player_option_in/

tl;dr There is no longer a need to disable the Single Player option on the Main Menu. Please re-enable it or a call-out to DayZ Commander to include Daizy / DayZSP as a downloadable option.

History: Back in June/July 2012, a user was working in tandem with rocket on a Single Player version of DayZ. Depending on whose story you hear and believe, the project was shut down (not gonna go into the various reasons).

In subsequent DayZ updates, the Single Player option in the ARMA 2 Main Menu was grayed out, and as of now is hidden altogether. This in turn disables the primary editor, which is required for the correctly working cinematic camera, among other things.

Single Player mode of DayZ (DayZ SP), after a brief time-out, continued it's work though, continuing into what is now called "Daizy", along with a few other flavors by other developers. Some of the features of SP now are similarly used in current "approved" mods (NPCs, Origins).

With each and every update of DayZ MOD, DayZ SP gets updated days later to bypass the Single Player option restriction. It's kind of like SimCity internet-always-on DRM: What's that freakin' point? Please just re-enable the option so we don't have to jump through hoops to get to the real editor.

If that's disregarded, I'd ask that the Commander developer include SP as a downloadable option. In essence, SP should no longer be seen as something "bad" or a "hack" of DayZ: It is a fully functioning DayZ MOD with it's own branches, code, and nuances. It really is a shame that I have to go out of my way to load the proper cinematic camera or to just play around in the normal editor with the various DayZ specific models, even going so far as to creating a special launcher on my YouTube channel.

Edit

My argument here is more for just bringing back the Single Player option itself: I've played DayZ SP, though only to muck around with flying something or to make a guide video or two, otherwise I've never had extended play in it. I personally want the Single Player option back so that I don't have to load an SP mod of DayZ to use the proper map editor for the cinematic camera (the camera crosshair can't be removed in the ALT+E editor).

Double Edit

For those interested, launcher links below. Note that I haven't updated it to DayZ 1.7.6.1 yet, so you'll need to pre-load DayZ 1.7.5.1 first BEFORE running the launcher. If you feel sketched out at running an app/launcher, the required files and instructions for manually setting up SP are in the "Manual Download Method" link in the forum link.

I recently downloaded DayZ SP and it is great fun, to make it part of commander would be good but as far as I'm aware that isn't up to the DayZ devs, not to mention you have to change some addon files for Daizy which means DayZ doesn't work, unless you keep duplicated of your addons folder, one for Daizy, one for DayZ, which you alternate when you want to play one or the other.

They don't have DayZ SP because scripters were using it to test out scripts, not because some random guy's mod was shutdown. The guy making the mod, if I recall correctly, wasn't even associated with the DayZ team. If you want to play DayZ SP, download the mission and run it on a private server, which anyone can create. If you can't be asked finding and downloading the mission then stop whining like usual Redditers (yeah, I said it.).

1: Kronzky (creator of DayZ SP and "Single Player 'Cheat' Support Call") worked along with Rocket.

2: Does it matter if scripts are tested offline in SP or online? If people are going to take the time to install DayZ SP and all its special crap, you think they won't take the time to disable BattlEYE on a private server and test it? Wow, really hit the nail on that guess, didn't you?

3: DayZ SP is a good way to learn to play, and a lot of fun if you don't have a 24/7 internet connection. Unlike you, some people like to travel, and need to use their laptops in different places... and yes, a Toshiba Satellite can run DayZ just fine.

I thought the gray-out was a subtle way of telling Kronzky to stop, though it hasn't seemed to. I personally disable the anti-SP button when I've got full DayZ running because it's a pain in the ass to turn ArmA off, change my Steam parameters, and turn it back on because I'm bored and want to play a SP Scenario or the campaign.

Yeah I mean whilst Daizy does come with cheats, I just used it to give myself some basic gear and do what I can't in most online servers which is just go around and have a bit of a zombie hunt to myself.

Saying that, went to green mountain and some creepy shit went down p_p

1. Was he a part of the DayZ dev. team? No? Exactly. They talked, but he was never part of the team.

2. I'm not the one who said it, Rocket was. I can't be asked to dig around for the quote, but it was an announcement, I remember reading it, which you wouldn't of because SP would've been disabled by the time you started playing. SP was also bugged and any items you got from looting in SP would carry over to multiplayer, which when there were only public servers, was a big deal.

3. You don't need SP to "learn" how to play. Without human interactions, DayZ isn't DayZ. If you want to learn how to play not-DayZ, play something else.

Wasn't the SP button removed because DayZ is supposed to be played in multiplayer? I'm sorry for the guys who wither can't afford a decent internet or don't have the option at all or travel around and want to play...but you can't change a whole game to something you didn't want it to be only because a few can't play it. And i wonder what will happen when the SA comes out...will the mission still be legally modifiable? I mean BIS owns the rights to the game and can do whatevwer they want and shut down everyone who uses the name to ride on the popularity wave...

It'll probably stay multiplayer only, I mean the SP is kinda fun but not having to worry about other players does take away from the experience. Granted the SP version does have NPC replacements with random gear and you have no idea which are friendly and which aren't, but it still isn't the same.

Did I call him part of the team? No? Okay then.

How the hell would offline SP looting carry into MP? That's preposterous.

Calm... calm down...

Some people can't deal with DayZ; it's proven to cause psychosomatic injuries. I'd rather see SP added and 500+ vehicle bullshit private hive servers.

Hello there

Lets move away from the whole what happened thing. It's been covered in depth.

Personally, without my mod hat on, i like SP Dayz, as I can run it with all my preferred Arma mods. It's flawed and unfinished but ideal for those with bandwidth limits/poor connections or those who simply want to play a different way. There's nothing wrong with that.

My only reason for not recommending it to others is that there are so many dodgy downloads made by various hack groups and I personally want to keep my key, and I think you, dear forum member do too.

Be careful what you download and where from.

Both communities really branched into SP, but I only bring it up as an alternative to the developers doing something: my goal here is to have the Single Player button re-enabled.

In regards to SP: I haven't dug into the SQF code for a while, but as of last check it's the mission files that do all the hard work. The changes in dayz_code.pbo were strictly to re-enable the single player option, and the cheat menu/ai/etc are embedded into the mission files themselves.

In allowing the SIngle player button back would allow players to simply load up the SP mission if they felt like it, not have to do funky things like having copies of @dayz and downloading from sketchy sites

I've found you have to change two files in your addons folder in order to play the version of SP that I have anyway, which corrupts your DayZ file (only a 6mb download in commander to fix it again) but my point is if it does anything to your game, when you redownload DayZ its automatically undone as far as I'm aware..
