mr_chabowski@live.co.uk 2416 Posted June 5, 2013 I think it's something of a misnomer TBH.It's not MMO that folks don't like the idea of, it's the thought of being thrust into a particular situation (with backstory, however slight) and being tasked with filling a role.Folks want to carve their own adventure. I think that's where a lot of the appeal stems from.Making the first wee while of survival a "fledgling" stage is perfect for encouraging folks to take their time while looting and causing an obstruction for those who would simply loot their own corpses or regear at tents.I'd be all for it being insanely shitty when you start, only thing is would it too much for new players? It's the sort of thing that could be done by degrees, per sever. Some less brutal servers might start you hungry/thirsty, whereas a take the piss hardcore server might start with you bleeding and passing out, with a bad case of VD and a beastin' hangover.

Right?I agree that people should be able to carve their own story, but again, that is infact RP... In my opinion you don`t have to start out sickly, that is just an example.(but a rather good one, in my opinion)You could start out fresh, but the point is... as you say yourself, carve out your own story. And when you die that "story" dies with you.So you have to give people something, even if it just to be able to take something away from them, and we already know that gear does not cut it.But there is a slippery slope here, what you give to players can not be to powerfull as it will give an advantage in pvp,but still be valuable enough that people act more like they play a survival game, rather then the same old braindead shooter.(no offence to shooters, they can be fun and I like them myself).I also agree with you about servers, that is a nice way to make everyone happy.Cheers :) Edited June 6, 2013 by Raventhorn
