Performance needs to be improved A LOT in standalone

Recommended Posts

I've been reading recently that Rocket expects the game to run "about the same" as the current mod. Of course with better, maps, and more Zeds, and an improved environment, I get that, but performance currently is shit. The test server was running at 25 FPS last week in Alpha testing? That's awful, and I hope standalone is not targeting some unacceptable 30fps at 1080p. on max settings with a high end system. 30 FPS like the game dips to at times presently is not sufficient. I'm worried we are going to be playing a prettier, and better Dayz, but still having to deal with these awful FPS dips. I wonder if the Arma engine is even up to the task? I hope so, but talk of a stable 60FPS on max settings would be like music to my ears.

If you look ar your CPU usage it's probably at least double that which you get while running ARMA 2. Are you really whining about an alpha build that isn't even ready for testing?

In his defence, even vanilla ARMA 2 doesn't run that great in multiplayer ..

I like my below 30 fps usually the 10-20 range makes me feel like I am playing max payne and arma. I run through bases gunning down opponents while I seem to be in a surreal meditational state behind the crosshairs.

No man, when it's done they are saying it will run like the current Mod.

There is a difference about making a thread for whining or creating an interesting discussion for all of us.

I cannot wait to test the standalone but I am certainly not going to buy a new machine for it as my current rig can run any game on mid settings and some even on high, I just always had problems with the performance of ArmA 2 and if you do a quick google search I am not the only one. ArmA 2 is just a badly optimized game and I hope they take some lessons from it. (I can see they did as I played ArmA 3)

I'm sure the new low-detail zed models will cut processor stress by a fair whack when they're implemented.

And if by some miracle SA manages to use more than one core it'll improve performance vastly.

If Rocket's saying it'll have the same performance as the mod currently, I'd wager he's not basing his estimate on the times where you get shitty FPS.

The fact that he's saying, quite confidently, that they've got a more even, less lag-spikey build speaks volumes.

If they reduced graphical fidelity to improve FPS people would still complain though, lol. The standalone is much better optimised than the mod, it makes way better use of your hardware and it's not even ready for testing yet. We can't really ask for more than that, lol.

Don't worry, zombies will have 3 articulation points instead of 5 meaning...

You will have a lot better performance. Also

90% of things are done server side now so your computer wont need to burn up its GPU and CPU doing silly things like spawning loot and zombies.

Another thing, if you want better FPS go into your documents and go into the ARMA folder and modify the ARMA 2 OA and ARMA 2 files to match this

GPU_MaxFramesAhead=1;

GPU_DetectedFramesAhead=1;

Will substantially raise your performance

A pre-Alpha running at a steady 25 fps isn't something to whine about. If anything, it is encouraging.

By time the public alpha build comes out and the game is running at a steady 30 fps, I will be most pleased.
