When is it Okay to KoS?

Recommended Posts

I almost never shoot other players; I don't think that's a very fun way to play.

I'm what you can call a DayZ creeper. I literally stalk people from town-to-town when I'm bored, occasionally throwing flares at them on night servers or sniping zombies to help them/scare them away.

And what I've noticed, through following these players, is how people tend to interact with each other or how they react to gunfire.

Some players drop prone, spin around, and start shooting if a bullet lands near them. Others run the hell away. My personal favorites are the idiots that don't react at all, for whatever reason. I've also noticed that players are way too trusting of straners; if I had a dollar for every time I followed a player and he said, "Hey I'm friendly!" and was immediately shot, I'd be a moderately successful man.

I like to call myself DayZ's avenging angel-when I see a player KoSed, I shoot the asshole that killed them. If I see someone with a bandit head wrap, I shoot them. If I see someone with a ghillie suit and an AMR or a sniper rifle camping around the coast, I shoot them.

What qualifies as a legitimate reason to shoot without provocation? Is it natural distrust for other players, or are you just a jerk and like killing people?

Always. Didn't pick up this DMR/M4SD/M9SD 45 minutes after spawning at a heli crash.

EDIT

I read the reply without reading the thread. Ignore this >.>

Furthermore: What do you do when trapped in a giant gunfight, consisting of over 30 people, who you don't know or trust?

As for the newer updates, zombies CAN climb ladders, see it all the time now. I'm actually very surprised you weren't killed while shooting the zombies from the tower, all those corpses would give a person away I imagine.

When is it ok to KoS?

Whenever you choose to do so! For christ sakes, it's a damm video game. A sandbox game, where people can choose to play how they want. If someone wants to KoS, it's their choice in this video game, not yours, not your friends, not his friends, but that players CHOICE if he chooses to.

If you don't like it, go play a different game. One that doesn't involve losing perhaps.

I can see your argument, but then there's the semantics on how the game is supposed to be played. If you're playing Monopoly and your friend says they start with an extra 2 million dollars, do you stop playing or show him the rule book?

If you see a sniper on the hills of Elektro or Cherno, please do not hesitate to kill them.

I only kill people when they threaten the safety of myself or my group... other than that.. I tend to let people wander off into the Wilderness unharmed....

What if you see them shoot another player, unprovoked? That isn't you/your group? You don't avenge the dead?

Supposed to be played?

You play by the rules of the game. In DayZ's case since it is a video game the rules are dictated by the mechanics of the game. If the game did not want people to shoot other people in the game then the game would have been made in such a way as to disallow it from happening. If the game wanted us to jump, the game would have been made with us being able to jump. Thus the rules of the game are hard-coded. Meaning I can't jump. Meaning I can choose to shoot or not shoot. That is the way the game was designed.

Monopoly is a board game, where the rules can be decided upon by the players because nothing is set in stone (like in a video game). If the players want to start with 2 million, or start with 4 houses upon purchase of a property, they can make those rules because it is just them in a game where the rules can be dictated by the players, and not the board.

You cannot dictate the rules of the video game. It is code. It is the mechanics of the game. It is the design of the game. When you go down the road of "how it's supposed to be played" you start acting all high and mighty, like your way is the only way it's supposed to be played. Where arbitrary rules start trumping the real mechanics of the game on what you can do, and what you shouldn't do. No shooting someone with a sniper rifle = arbitrary rule. No shooting bambi's = arbitrary rule. No shooting hero's = arbitrary rule.

At what point do you just say, NO PVP? It's ridiculous. The only rules that should be enforced are those that the game allows. And that is pretty much everything. Hacking, duping, exploiting, glitching are all breaking the rules, because you then bypass what the game is supposed to allow you to do.

Predator, ruminant, opportunistic or vegetarian?

All depends on your style of play, everyone is different therefore all actions are justified.

Myself I prefer not to shoot people unless they are well armed.

I shoot people if they shoot at me in the first place, don't answer me when I asked them, or look at me suspicously. That happened once. Twice.

KOS whenever you want, you bought the game and downloaded the mod so your entitled to play as you see fit. I for one KOS not because i am a C*nt but because i love the emotions a good fire fight brings out. On the other hand if i see unarmed players i help them out, give them lifts and drop them off somewhere to get geared. if i see them later i will KOS.

It's only a game, it's not like you can't get geared again.

I KoS'ed only once: it was evening/dark, the other guy had NVG, ghillie suit and a silenced rifle. He saw me late, dropped to the ground so I shot.

Get off my thread.

If it's a bandit and it moves, I shoot it.
